    Honest Advice/Opinion On A Laptop

I've asked around before across a few forums but I always talk myself into waiting for a better option. I now have the chance (hopefully) and I want to seriously look at my options at a laptop. No more speculation.

I have seen some great looking set ups on the Dell outlet. The XPS 15 series seems great for the money(cant chose one though). But I see other laptops get posted on here that to me seem a little worse off but get more attention, what am I missing ?.
Honestly, if I had the money I would pay someone for honest advice and product listings for me. I feel so out dated with all the new tech.

I mainly want this to do basic things like Internet, email, downloads, videos. I'd also like (if possible) the means via HDMI to link up to me big TV to watch a movie or two. Also would like the chance to play some games.

I hopefully will have a £450 ish budget (new CC dependant) so let the talk begin.
Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, your my only hope !.

I think it's just the price that gets that particular thread lots of attention.
I know what you are saying I have seen a couple posted on here and I would pay more for a better laptop!

^ That looks nice. Cheaper than the reconditioned Dells I was looking at. I just need to find a way to see what performance is like on these laptops that have a separate graphic card. I'd like to know what it can do before making any assumptions game wise.

people dont like 'refurb' in general and the stock is unpredictable which is why the deals can get less attention.

if you dont mind the fact that its a customer return or an actual refurb then outlet is going to get you a far higher spec than any brand new machine.

the icore inspirons with ati 5650 (see here to find out whats in laptop link )and any xps 15 are both capable of playing games including crysis.

if they can game then they can do the other stuff

tesco dell is weak allround really

atm on outlet you can get
    i3-380
    4gb ram
    ati 5650
    500gb HDD
for 330 del which is miles ahead of the tesco offering in every way
(sure can get better than that brand new anyway)

Thanks again everyone. The past 6 months or so have been a good time in general for the people of the Internet being nice people.

I am such a bad person for always saying "well for £XXX more I can get", I just end up putting my budget up so I can get the best options, despite them being above my requirements. I am sure just getting the sleeves rolled up and having a proper look I could get the old tower working up to standard and save myself unnecessary debt, but I have never had a laptop and I just need a new toy.
I deserve it don't I ! . Sure the sofa could do with replacing, the stair-well still needs decorating 3 years later, a new carpet in the living room would be welcome etc .... as well as paying of the current credit cards.

Going to stay with family for a week without Internet soon so will give that time to give it a good think and then comeback to the world and have a good look. Now I know some more options and also know that I can openly ask for opinion and products I feel better off.

Just to check. Brilly was that for a xps 15?. They are all gone atm but would like to know so I don't have to deep search every time.

Another follow up question or two on dell. Do they deliver to a address other than the card holder and what are the deliverys like? Quick and reliable hopefully.

the 330 one was an inspiron, think more xps 15 today
lots of info in this current deal thread

Thanks again brilly. had no idea there was a on going thread. Though as the outlet was reconditioned people would generally look down on them. Think from what I have seen I will try to get a XPS 15. They generally seem a good build and spec.

I ordered one on that thread.

Delivery took just longer than a week. Performance wise, I went for an i5 XPS 15, and it can run Crysis 1 on Medium at full resolution, and Crysis 2 on "Gamer" spec at playable framerates.

    Source games, maxed out.

I've been putting it through it's paces since I got it and it's the best laptop I've owned.

Holy poop. I was honestly hoping for them to play something like original Starcraft and possibly a C&C game. If I can get it to do some proper gaming at a price of £450 ish I'm set.

Do the XPS 15's come with HDMI ?. Looking around I was getting mixed results due to the variations of the XPS 15 , also had some trouble with the graphic cards.

#3 says either of the machines would play crysis
xps15 has hdmi ofc and graphics is geforce 420m unless its an i7 which is geforce 435m
if you see an inspiron n5010 with ati 5650 its about half way between.

Thanks again Brilly. Away from home ATM so not been able to look all the time. I am close to siding with the n5010 but saying I have a XPS sounds more techy and I will be able to show off more. :P

So out of date on tech these days, I almost feel ashamed that this once pillar of tech knowledge is so past it.
