Thomas Cook Evacuating Tourists From Tunisia

British tour operator Thomas Cook has declared it is evacuating 1,800 tourists from Tunisia amid angry demonstrations.

The firm said it has not seen any specific problems for its holidaymakers in the North African nation, but was asking everyone to leave as a precaution.

Tunisia has been rocked by unrest sparked by anger at unemployment and at a leadership many see as controlling and corrupt.

On Friday, thousands of angry demonstrators marched through capital city Tunis to demand the resignation of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

I went about 3 years ago and loved it. Dead cheap..

I went five years ago and got food poisoning. Never again -- such a dirty place.

We went 2 years ago and absolutely loved it. People were very friendly, food was good and weather was superb.

And Trevor MacDonald made such a lovely programme about it just last week!

    +1

I went last year and was going to go back again this year. Maybe not.

Its an amazing place to holiday - though last time we were there our friend who is a local told us that they never had any political unrest and the President would be there forever as everyone loved him - ooops !

I avoided all the hotel tours, and took the national rail to the zoo, and other sites. Only about £1 for first class national trains across the country. Great times..
