    Hi,
Thinking of going to Edinburgh for 3-4 nights from 27th December till 30th or 31st.

Was wondering if anyone has any fairly cheap but reasonable hotels theyve stayed it, or can find?

    Many thanks for any replies.

My mate was looking for hotels in Edin****** earlier today, and it didn't look good. Holiday Inn were asking £150 a night, and I don't think he found anywhere much cheaper than that. He managed to find some B&Bs that normally charge around £30 a night and he's emailed a few of them to see if they have any rooms spare for the period. It'd probably be an idea to do the same yourself, or to contact some hostels.

And you've got to stay for the 31st. People will look at you funny if you don't.

haha, but it would be a nightmare price wise!
Even is when not staying for the 31st!

when I was last in Edinburgh I stayed in the grove apartments (they also have morrison and eq apartments) was loads cheaper than a hotel because of a deal they had on at the time. Probably worth looking at the 3 for 2 deals or city break xmas/new year deals. Saved a fortune last time i went but obviously the price rockets around xmas might be hard getting something because of the dates!!

how far were they from the main edinburgh city, the royal mile?
    Cheers

I stayed at ]http//ww…el/ a couple of years ago when i went up to watch the open at st andrews and found the place quite pleasant.

Forget that idea.....i've just realised the place is closed untill next June!!!

To be honest you may struggle for reasonably priced accom mate. Edinburgh starts to get VERY busy at that time for New Year etc. A lot of the cheper places are taken ages in advance. I think your best bet would be a guest house or b&b. You will either be able to google it or a call to the local Tourist office may not be bad. Public transport pretty good so you should be able to get into and out of the town quick enough. Hope you get something.

Last time I was in Edinburgh I stayed at the Ashlyn Guest House at
42 Inverleith Row. out past the Botanic Gardens. This was in 1994
so it has been a bit of a while, but have just found it is still there
and seems to be run by the same people.

Rooms were nice & spacious. Food was hearty Scottish breakfast with
some home baking thrown in some days (scones, pancakes, bread, etc...)

Found a couple of good (recent) reviews & a complaint about lack of
local parking. May be worth a try, but I don't fancy your chances of getting
accomodation in Edinburgh that close to Hogmanay. Good luck
