I have never had house insurance but keeping getting calls about it, there are afew things that confuse me

what exactly does it cover

do you need to be a home owner

i have seen it a few times '' my tv has broken but i got it replaced on house insurance '' how does that all work

is it a good idea to have house insurance if you have a lot of costly item's ?

the chances of my house getting burgled is very slim, so would it be worth it for me

cheers for any help

"I have never had house insurance"
Are you joking??
It is an extremely good idea to get home and contents insurance. What would happen if a burglar came in and took all your things? If you haven't got house insurance you would not get anything back and would have to replace it all from your own pocket. Most contents insurancesreplace old for new. So theoretically if someone nicked you old telly the house insurane would replace it with a new one.
It is a good idea to get buildings and contents insurance. Do a confused.com search but be totally honest about window locks/alarm systems etc.

Questions for yourself are:
1, Do you own your own home or flat?
2, Do you have expensive tv's, Pc's and hign end equipment that could not be replaced easily if they were stolen or if you were to break them by accident i.e drop the 42" LCD when moving across the room?
3, Do you have pocessions that are valuable that would cost a small fortune to replace?

Now there are two types of house insurance, Buildings and contents.
If you live in your own flat and pay charges then just get contents insurance. Very valuable to have and does not cost alot to get (under £100 easily!) unless of course you are living out of a suitcase!
If you own your own home the you should have Buildings and contents.

Oh and I should of said you can get quidco on certain insurance products as well!

i rent my property, and yea i have high end equipment, i just wasnt sure if house insurance only covered items stolen rather then damaged etc, does the fact there is a young child in the house so the chances of something breaking being much higher will that higher my premiums ?

i would go for accidental damage on the contents, that way if your 2 year old broke something you would be covered, ask what the difference in price is when you call for a quote. I always get accidental cover as it covers you if you put your foot through a ceiling or decorating mishaps.

on confused.com as i couldnt agree to being a house owner it wouldnt give me an online quote, any decent companies to use on quidco, so i need contents insurance with accidental cover

i would get accidental cover yes, for example if you are painting and you spill the paint then you would be covered,go on quidco type in house insurance in the search bit, and it will bring up a list of company's. Good luck x x x

While not on quidco, try direct line, at least for a quote and see what they charge

on quidco they got endsleigh rented accomodation they may be worth a try. I do it the good old fashioned way on the phone with the yellow pages but it takes ages.

I have found churchil the best for me on car/contence and pet but Tesco to be a nightmare

Yes , it pays you to have contents insurance whether you own your home or rent it . I have 'new for old' but wasn't bothered about acidental damage .Shop around for a quote , I found the TSB to be quite cheap this time around .
A few months back in Morpeth alot of people were flooded and many didn't have insurance , they have lost everything . Can you imagine haveing to find the cash in a hurry to buy all the belongings they lost . You dont have to if your insured .
