How are electricity units charged for?

My husband says it is cheaper to use electricity in the evening then the day - e.g. put the washing on at night. I don't think it is the case. The tarrifs I have seen charge so much for the first set number of units and then the rest have a lower price. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Depends on what tarrif you are on some tarrifs allow you a cheaper rate at night E7 and then there is E10 which has 3 different prices for different times of the day

    what is E7 and E10?

Economy 7 which is cheaper electricity for 7 hours at night or economy 10 which is 10 hour Ib elieve. With both you get substantially cheaper electricity during the cheap time but pay alot more for the other times.

Speak to them and tell them what your needs are. they might be able to sort you out a better rate based on when you use it most
