Get a job in my office, they are worse than China for blocking websites

Edit your hosts file here C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
and add this www.facebook.com 127.0.0.1

But if their determined they will just use a proxy and then there's pretty much nothing you can do but keep checking the pc's history and pointing the proxy sites to 127.0.0.1 also.

The easiest way to block any website on a computer/laptop (not for the network, which would happen if you block it on the router) is to add the address to the local hosts file. It may sound technical but they will not get past it easilly.

If running Windows XP/vista/7 go to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
then right click hosts then open with note pad
at the bottom of the document type

lol!

you could use Windows Live Family Safety also but I would do exactly what danmc has wrote above ( joined this today to give you the same answer as he has only to find while I was joining danmc beat me to it)

If you want to confuse the person change danmc's host file to

www.facebook.com 66.102.9.99

then every time they go to facebook they arrive at google, searching in google and clicking a link will also send them back to google as will any other search site. Just sit and watch them scratch their head wondering why they are getting no where

make sure you save the file name with the correct extension, just click save or it might save it as a text document.

thanks for all your help. It's worked...does anyonw know how would you reverse this?

tried the above and typed into notepad but I could not save the documnent

I dont understand how typing infor on WP doc stops access to facebook.

Son wants me to block it off his computer, trying to revise and BIG distraction for him, I anot very techy though

knew I should not start this

Went into tools, internet options content. Put facebook in the box of excluded sites and then had to password it

then I could not access any sites without the password.

Come to think of if....I need it for this site when I have other things I MUST do!

just re open the hosts file and add a "# " (a hash sign and at lest one space) before the www.facebook.com and save again. The # tells windows to ignore that line of code
