How can i claim tax returns?

    Hi Friends

my situation is that in 2007 i worked for few months and earned about 4k and as i was on BR code i payed about 700 quid tax.

basically i am trying to find out how can i claim back my tax and NI as i believe if one earns less than 5600 in a year they can claim the tax back?

    try the tax office

Call HMRC they will tell you what tax office you are under (it is not necessarily your local one).

Call them and they can calculate your tax over the phone and send you a cheque (be prepared for a wait)

Be prepared for a long wait, im still chasing a rebate from 05/06

Calling HMRC is def your best option thou as they can tell exactly what you owe / are owed

He's certainly something that sounds like that.

im sure it should happen automatically. i remember i had a rebate via cheque a few years ago now. im assuming the tax year was April 07 - April 08? if so, should of had it by now.

have you checked to see if youve been paying a lower tax rate since then & its been 'given' back to you in your wage? thats their prefered method

DON'T fill in the P60 or whatever it is! Just get all your payslips for that year with a letter asking for a refund and you'll get it a lot quicker! Mine came in 2 weeks!

Mate - I work in payroll and all the details can be found here :-

    hmrc.gov.uk/inc…htm

You can find your tax office referennce code on your payslip or P60. You do not fill out a P60 form this is sent to you by your employer as a summary of the financial year providing you are still on payroll on 5th April. Hope this helps.

Well actually above is only how to claim your tax back but I believe the Revenue are now handling both tax and NI queries after they amalgamated their databases in July, so they should also be able to help you out for both.
