OP device has no ethernet socket to accommodate a standard LAN cable, hence the question...

Look at this on eBay ebay.co.uk/itm…993

USB2 ethernet devices probably peak at around 200-250Mbits/s transfer rate (where lower case b = bit) and the cheapest are often contained in fixed plastic enclosures which may be detrimental to the client's USB socket if the LAN cable is accidentally moved / tugged (example £3.25 dlvd ex-UK http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162019978040). Possibly worth the additional few £s to look at cabled alternatives that would provide a small element of tug protection and are typically USB3 so greater potential transfer speeds (£6.60+ ex-UK ebay.co.uk/itm…923 or amazon.co.uk/dp/…GQ/ )
Also note that most suppliers will provide software drivers on disc, and I suspect if your device has no ethernet port then it probably does not have an optical drive to read the disc...

Being nosey, can I ask the device??

Even my tiny old Asus EEPC has an ethernet port.
