How do I find out.....

..which provider has the best signal for mobile phones in my area?

Personally I would scrounge some free sim cards for the various providers and give them a blast in an unlocked phone

I dont trust any kind of online signal map after the debacle I had with three mobile broadband!

signal maps are normally useless anyway really, it can depend on building you're in, trees etc in the area and sometimes the actual equipment your using.

You can't tell from the map.

Local conditions around you can mess the signal up. My mate had 100% signal 24/7. Then they built a block of flats down the road between him and the closest mast and now if he gets one bar he's lucky...

I used to work in an office where if you sat one side you would get an Orange signal and the other absolutely nothing. Orange claimed the signal was fine as it had been tested...
Sim cards are everywhere free, test them everywhere if you have any doubts. You could have a party and when they arrive check their phone signals... that way it makes it fun as well :-D
