How do I get a company to stop phoning me???

For the past six months or so I've been receiving marketing calls from a company called GFC. They phone to offer loans/IVAs etc. I've received about 50 calls so far, the first 30 or so I said to them I'm not interested, don't phone back. The 10 after that I started getting a bit angry and spoke to several "managers" who said they'd take my number off the system.

So after those 10 I told them that if they ever phone me again I'm just going to swear at their staff down the phone. So the next 10 have been and gone with me getting in about 30 seconds of serious abuse before they hang up. Some calls they let me go on for ages then put me onto a manager who again says he'll take my number off the list. I again warn them that if they choose to ring me they'll just get abuse. Got another call this morning, only about 15 seconds of abuse this time. Have been registered with the telephone preference service for a few years, just tried to re-register and it says I'm already registered.

What else can I do to stop these idiots phoning me?

is this your mobile or house phone? ring whoever you got your contract with and tell them to bar that number from calling?

The problem is that it's an autimatic dialler and software they have paid for, so probably can't edit. I would say you have died the next time they phone, or are under 18, these are some of the only reasons they will remove you without court action

I'm registered with the TPS (Telephone Preference Service) if you say you are indeed registered with these, compaines will usually hang up when you point this out as they face prosecution.

Or if that fails get yourself a whistle!

    Hope this helps

BT want nearly £50 a year to block it, and I don't know the number anyway!

do what I do, when they ring and say can I speak to Mr X, say "Yeah hang on a minute and I will get him"

Then just put the phone on the side and leave it, return to watching TV.

Me and the missus do it and play a game to see who can keep them waiting the longest. Check back with the phone every 10 minutes and tell them he is on his way.

    Remember it's their phone bill

Next time they phone speak to a manager again - make a note of his name, the company name and ask for the phone number - then report them to the TPS.
    That is your first option.
Second when they ask for you, say "hold on, I'll just go get him for you" then put the receiver down (not hung up) and go off and carry on with what you were doing!!!! (I've started doing this and have to stop myself feeling guilty about it!!)
Third, you could always get a whistle and try blowing that down the phone.

Good luck. I know how frustrating it is to get these calls. I have been driven to tears before by this happening.

EDIT : This site is so slow today, I started typing this when there was only one reply above!!!! and now there are about another 5 before mine!!!!!!

If it's this lot Benji you got plenty of ways to go:

    edit. Wrong Company.

Bill them for your time. Send proper invoices.
    Constantly phone them !
    Constantly Fax them
Constantly email them until you get a response.

Pay them a visit with a few of those hunky Cornishmen :w00t:

    Likewise !!

We had a similar debacle with an awful company called Ufindus. They were ringing several times a day for a number of weeks and drove the whole office completely nuts.

Could be, I tried googling but didn't get anywhere. I might try phoning them (won't swear this time tho), I would love to be someone who had the courage to turn up to one of these places and take matters into my own hands, but I'd probably get arrested so not worth the bother.

EDIT :- Not them! Or so they say!!! Got an English person, everyone that phones me is foreign, she said they get alot of calls from people who think it's them.

Doesn't stop them ringing tho, they keep on ringing!!! Am going to go down the route of taking manager's name and reporting them.

Nah you dont want GA playing to them it is too good, bet Mr Blobby on repeat instead

Make a score board for you and anyone else in the house and pin it next to the phone, turn it in to a game and you actually start to look forward to them ringing

This is the best advice. It works. I never get cold calls now. Also the MPS stops junk mail too.

We did this when we were getting 2 or 3 calls a day, after about a week the calls slowed down, after two weeks they had stopped completely!

This is what I would recommend until they stop calling, not just their phone bill, also ties up a phoneline that they then cant use to call someone else

Use a way to get rid of sales people as well, When they ask for you ,just say 'Ohh, were you a close friend?' then see what they say :P

If he posts something useful could someone quote it for me as I have him set to ignore.

    Thanks.

    OMG! PMSL :lol::lol::lol:

easy quote OFCOM at them if they ring again carry out a complaint through OFCOM. OFCOM charge the company just for looking into the matter, works pretty much everytime, I did it to Orange oooh how quickly they stopped calling.

I've had this same company ringing and eventually they got the message, but it took nearly a month

Next time they ring. Tell them they're harassing you and your going to contact your solicitor if they carry on.
