    The codes are great.

But if you look on ebay, there are the some hardware devices, purposefully hardwired and coded to unlock certain ranges of phones.

    IE:

£60 for dongle that unlocks SE K750/K800etc

£50 for a dongle that unlocks Motorola V3/V535/635 etc.

So you can get the hardware, but they will become old within a year or so and unless you dozens of phones they're not worth it...

I have seen things that look like a small box with 4 AA batteries in and a cable on end that fits on bottom of phone.

    Those are emergency chargers iirc.

Well they used them to unlock phones lol, guy had a box full of them and when I went to get my phone unlocked he took one out attached it and unlocked it.

Dongles with AA compartments doesn't surprise me, bet they're still pricey mind.

yes ive seen them and it makes some kind of noise aswell.

what phone shops do is buy unlocking "boxes" which people make and sell

you plug it into your pc, load the software with it and after a few clicks the phone is unlocked!

the people that make and sell the boxes upgrade the software to add new features, more phone model support or change things i.e. layout and carry on supporting their customers if they ask for help or report bugs. well most of them do *cough* usb smart *cough*

check out the hardware section on gsm forum by zfrank and you will find unlocking box support areas.

there are free codes etc out there but they only do a small percentage of phones.

unlocking boxes range from about £40-£10,000 (mt-box pro)

flippin eck, what do you think i should get as a beginer which can unlock new and old phones, i dont want anything which i have to open up the phone, codes ones are the ones i want.

errm the easiest to use is probably ns pro for samsungs, universal box for nokia and universalbox for sony ericsson.

in the unlocking business most phones are done by cable and computer as its easier to plug the phone in and press unlock rather than type in digits into the keypad

    Arn't those hundreds of pounds?

And not to hijack this thread:

Phones I'd like to unlock + cost of local place that'll do it

    Nokia 6680 - £8

    Motorola L6 x2 - £5 each, £10

    + possibly Nokia 6300 - £22

    So £18 minimum, possibly £40

I'd be willing to spend £50 on unlocking equipment that can do the 2005Q1-2007Q1 ish low to mid motorolas like the L7/L7/L7e/L9/V3, and the BB5 Nokia's including the 6300/6680 and similar.

    Comments welcome.
