im going t send something tomorow by special delivery because im worried about the recent strikes etc and the item may get lost or watever.

so does anyone know how the claim works? say the item doesnt arrive next day how do you prove to them what was inside and the value?

also if it doesnt arrive next day do i get a refund on the postage?

You pay a level of insurance dependant on what is inside the package which will make the cost higher if you want more consideration for failure to deliver/missing etc. You also need to have it signed off by Royal Mail who will give you a tracking number which you can track on their website.

There are different types of delivery:

Recorded Delivery - this just requires a signature.
Next day delivery before 9am - also requires a signature
Next day delivery before 1pm - also requires a signature and is cheaper than before 9am (for obvious reasons).

Special Deliery - this just requires a signature.

That would be recorded - special delivery=next day.

It is late!!

as for the original question: if special delivery doesn't arrive the next day, yes you get refunded the postage. if it gets lost you get compensation based on the level of insurance you took, though they will also ask for proof of purchase etc.

that'll tell u what you need to do. to claim something as lost it has to be 15 working days, 10 for special delivery

Your tracking number. If you take it to the Post Office they will sign it as proof you have opted for that method of postage. The eBay information only proves you have sold it by eBay. You need actual proof of postage.

yes, ebay invoice is ok. in fact, i think on the claim forms they now even have a tick box for ebay. if you do make a claim though also make sure that you keep a copy of the proof of posting as there is always a possibility they lose your claim.

when making a claim you need to provide a receipt for what the item actually cost you nmot what you sell it for on ebay.......although when i have needed to make a claim i have simply sent off a copy of the paypal claim refund and then received a cheque for the full aomunt plus the postage......around 2 weeks in total it took that was recorded but my mum has had success with a proof of postage also so.......
