How do u fix a laptop screen with no warranty?!?!?

Are there independant companys that fix screens?

Would it be worth the hassle as i heard screens are very expensive to fix
and my laptop is maybe worth £300 at the max?

Could i buy warranty for it then get it fixed? LOL

any input is appreciated

Personally Id be tempted to buy a replacement screen off ebay from someone selling parts and and have a go at fitting myself.

Yes, I don't know how much it would cost if you took it to be repaired.

But I doubt you would have much change out of that 300.

What make and model is it?

I worked at a computer workshop and the guy really did struggle repairing laptop screens, it all looks really fiddley.

1 i had a dell 510m which was dropped, screen cracked but everything else was fine, plugged it into a external monitor to check.

2 checked ebay and made an offer seller ummed and arred.
3 brought a new unopened 510m for 300 instead.
4 lcd seller got back to me accepted the low offer!
5 i repaired the screen - simple with this laptop although i did have to make use of those tiny screwdrivers i got with my Christmas crackers!
the cost of repair was nothing as i was able to do it (im not technical) simply unscrewed and remembered what went where etc..

6 two laptops!

the cost of the replacement screen was £130

Ok cancel that idea, Ive never tried before but assumed it would be a couple of screws and a maybe a tiny bit of soldering.

I can't remember the name but there was a company mentioned a while back that upgrade screens for around £40-60 by putting in the TrueLife style screens (reflective ones).
Might be an option?

the model is a TOSHIA EQUIUM-A100

i would attepmt it myself but how hard is it to fit a screen? i dont wanna destroy the whole laptop

I've done quite a few screen replacements but I've not worked on that model.

I've found a support group ]here that should be able to answer you questions.

Should be no soldering involved with any Laptop repairs unless it is component based problems.

It's not as daunting as you think when you start opening it up.

There is usually a type of lid above the keyboard (usually where some speakers are) which can be clipped off, then undo screw and lift keyboard, then undo clipped on plastic mould which houses the screen hinges, then undo any necessary screws to get to screen ribbon cable and carry on replacing from there...

sounds quite do-able

ok would anyone know the best place to purchase a replacement screen?

eBay is the most likely bet...

If not, then just search for Laptop Repair Centres on Google and it should give repair centre lists that may carry spare parts.

My keyboard on Dell laptop broke, I called and got the insurance and then told them I had a problem, someone sent out that day! (Know someone who did that and then cancelled the insurance the next day, and they didnt charge!)

Is your screen actually broken, or could it be the backlight that has gone?

If your screen is almost black, but you can only just see your desktop icons in the darkness when booted up, it's more likely the backlight than the screen needing replaced. I know someone who can fix this for a small charge.

it was really easy there was no soldering just undid the screws and clips then unplugged the old screen and plugged in the new one, screwed it all back together and tada! a shining example of diy
