How do you discipline your children?

Most people think it improper to smack children, so I have tried other methods to control my kids when they have one of 'those moments.'

One that I found effective is for me to just take the child for a car ride and talk.

Some say it's the vibration from the car, others say it's the time away from any distractions such as TV, Video Games, Computer, IPod, etc.

Either way, my kids usually calm down and stop misbehaving after our car ride together. Eye to eye contact helps a lot too.

I've included a photo below of one of my sessions with my son, in case you would like to use the technique.

Oh BTW, I shout with a very deep growly voice......makes em cry.......I'm usually the back up for mummy when her discipline doesn't work

And whilst I would love to put their heads through a wall some days, missus wont let me smack them so I try to avoid it

loss of priviliges, internet,tv,ps2,pocket money etc

I can't see the pic - can anyone else see it?

im guessing its a joke, the pic of a child on the windscreen?

I don't have a child, but am a teacher. Supernanny has some excellent parenting techniques.

Discipline appropriate to the punishment is a must really.

Praise when they do good, no matter how bad they've been a little earlier is one that took me a long time to master-not good if you hold grudges!!

maybe not the right thing to do hey i am being honest i just lose it and scream my head off. my biggest problem is i dont forget and some times not all the time go on and on about what they have done wrong and feel really bad afterwards when i sometimes spit out hurtful words.

i do shout, not that it works, but better than what i see some mums do, ive heard a local woman screram at her kids calling them allsorts and clouting them round the head

She was probably scared for what the girl had done! I have seen how fear of parents comes across in anger-the thought of what might have happened to her daughter had she kept walking probably propelled the mother to smack her. How many times have you shouted 'You could have been hurt!!' because of something the child's done. I'm not saying its right, far from it, but we all respond to those moments in different ways.

    Ditto.

I'm no soft touch when it comes to disobedience.

I've got one really good child and one with 'second child syndrom'!

We are now at the end of our tethers with him and so have sunk to the depths of reading 1-2-3 magic and will start to implement it tomorrow after school! Fingers crossed it will do the trick - at this stage I am prepared to give anything a go!!

the naughty boys corner if they move or talk while there in it for 10 minutes they get longer then no sweets
