How does revolut work?

Looking to buy something off amazon italy. Do I need to top up my revolut account with Euro's or Pound's (as it says some banks charge to do euros), and then when I come to pay, do I do it in Euro's or Pounds? Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Top up in pounds from your bank/debit card in to your Revolut account.

Internally "change money" from GBP in to Euros or Dollars.

Buy stuff online, or from abroad, pay in local currency. eg. Buy from Spain, pay in Euros.

You will have already been charged a small amount when you changed your GBP in to Euros in your Revolut account, so if you buy something at for example, 125 Euros, you only pay 125 Euros.

Hope I explained enough

Just top up the pound account with pounds (debit card ) theres a credit card surcharge then exchange pounds to euros and make payment if any left can choose to excange back and withdraw to local bank account (a day or two) .

Should you need another currency than gbp eur or usd then a 0.4% charge is made on exhange rate miles better then u would normally get but can be taken from any balance in any currency u choose.

I must admit I had never heard of Revolut, I normally just buy direct from Amazon.italy , what are the advantages of using Revolut ?

A better cross rate.

if you had 100 pounds and changed it to dollars and back to pounds

you would still have close to 100 pounds with revolut but other places would charge higher fees either direcrly or wirh the exchange rate and you might have 99 98 97 96 etc

Just put pounds on the revolut card, you don't even need to change it.

Can you use it without proving your identity? I've loaded some money on revolut and to get a virtual card it's asks me to prove my identity with passport/driving licence/identity card. Must I do this? Thanks

*update. I topped up from a visa debit card 2 times and that verified me
