How is this ever going to end?

Ok, let's say that we get the numbers down here in the UK. Then what? As long as it is in the world (especially in the EU with freedom of movement) then surely its just going to be a continuous loop?

Waterpistol fights I think?

Actually, waterpistol may be a great tool to encourage the kids to carry handwash when out and about in quiet locations, until the 24hr curfew hits.

Well, yeh they need to have because I've lost count at the cases there now. 100,000 at least?
Is this a population culling thread? Things got very dark very quickly didn't they.

EU officials did nothing, it was individual countries that set restrictions.

It'll end by Dec 31, no extension.

The curfew is likely to be longer than 24 hrs... probably a couple of weeks.

Water pistol fights with hand gel in them? Even safer

Normally they do, look at how Poland and Hungary have been fined and warned previously for doing so during the so called migrant crisis. The EU however can hardly stop all 27 countries from putting restrictions on freedom of movement and their borders when they all are doing it. What are they going to do, fine and impose sanctions on itself!
Yes OP, it is very unlikely to just disappear, it is always going to be around, like other flu strains, etc. Hopefully we can keep it suppressed, but there is bound to be future flare ups. Just going to have to get used to it being around from now on. A vaccine will no doubt be found and available to the most vulnerable though.

Technically, yes. Also, despite the fact that Italy is struggling, they have also just slapped a $8.5 million fine on them.

Whadabout! That has nothing to do with borders.

If they are willing to slap a fine on Italy at this time, then what might they possibly do in the future with countries going against the treaties and shutting their own borders down on their own accord? Time will tell.

Fingers …Fingers crossed:https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-new-treatment-for-critically-ill-patients-to-begin-as-soon-as-next-week-11959914

That's somewhat reassuring.

I do know what you are getting at though.
This strain will become an annual occurrence, much like the flu, head cold etc.
It's just dangerous right now as there isn't a vaccine or "cure" for it.
The flu can still kill the elderly even having taken the flu vaccine, and the same will occur with Covid-19.
The fact is, those with underlying health conditions will have a better chance at a full recovery as further research is done. Sadly those too weak will struggle to recover regardless of what vaccination becomes available.

I imagine everyone will have to experience some element of this strain for the virus itself to be less off a threat to our bodies.
Immunity through evolution and medicine is why most of today's common illnesses aren't met with any fear.

To get hit with this year on year won't be much fun but one should imagine certain individuals will be less likely to contract it in the same fashion that they don't contract every bug that goes around the office.
