Maybe your cat has learnt how to turn the tap on?

    I honestly don't know, sorry

    same region?

    Same water provider?

go get a meter fitted then

    query it!

Some cats do enjoy drinking from the tap.....

If that's not the case with yours, I'd get the meter fitted like others have suggested, definitely seems odd.

you dont get rated on how many are in house, it depends on areas and also council tax i belive, but you could phone and make sure, even ask your neighbours

    Fair???
Come and live in Cornwall where we have the highest water rates in the whole country. There would be a county-wide party if our water rates were £30 a month.

Seriously, it is irritating the way that we have to pay for our water and has little relation to how much we use, more with where we live. I don't know if different supplies charge differently for metered water; I bet that doesn't necessarily work out fairly either.

Definitely get a water meter installed - you have a year to try it out and can revert back if you want to. My bills were cut by about half when I got one installed.

It's not fair...life isn't fait. I like in a two bed flat...me and my cat! lol yet at one point my gas bills were higher than my Auntys 5 bed house in London.

I live in scotland and pay ****** all for water...*

*not strictly true, but it's a hell of a lot less than you guys

they should just put meters in every household like gas and elec and it would save on water as people would be more concious of what they use

why unfair? the south of england sees the smallest amount of rainfall so its more expensive to supply water in these areas. Same for gas and electric.

I bet your pasties are cheaper than elsewhere :-D

too right - I'm on a meter and pay less now than I did 15 years ago cos I dont waste any

then I see my neighbour who has his sprinkler on about 12-18 hours a day to keep his grass green (an impossible task as we live 50 yards from the beach and shingle is about 1 foot below grass level) :w00t:

    obviously doesnt have a meter!

Fairest thing but don't non-metered payees actually subsidise the metered at present?

I think you'll find that the SWest has plenty and plenty of rain!!

Our high costs are due to having to 'clean up' all the beaches for the last ten years. There was actually a piece on it tonight on the local BBC news - highest water rates, lowest average wage, paying for all the water to be fully treated before discharge. Some one in charge of looking into it was suggesting that as its a national benefit then the nation should pay for a lot of the capital costs.

The pasties aren't cheaper but they are the genuine article.;-)

Have you checked your tenancy agreement to see if you're liable for the water rates?

Mabe the water board messed up,one time we moved into a flat and the standing order each mth was loads, and it took ages to get through to them I was in a flat amongst others in the building. It turned out they were billing me for the whole building some how.
Yeh water, dearest utility for us,about £45-50 a mth now on a meter,I pay 2 bills,1 for waste/sewerage and 1 for drinking water to another company, that how it works here.Elec I can have 3 mths worth for less than £100 sometimes, gas not too bad apart from in Winter, water def dearest for such an essential.

    £276/year?!?!?!

Yeah, cheaper than that lol :-D

i pay £32 3 bedroom house and my old man on a second floor massonette pays the same, 1 bedroom flat

    Ok, try this
2 people live together, they pay 100% of their council tax
They separate live apart and alone
They get 25% single person discount each at their separate addresses
Total they now pay is 50% more between them than they were paying, since they both now pay 75% of the original bill
Not like they are using 50% more services surely?
Council Tax, now that's an unfair tax is ever there was one.

but gas and water arent paid for by council tax and neither is the nhs

how can it ever be fair that 2 senior citizens pay the same as a family of 8 just because they live next door to each other?

poll tax was much fairer tbh :w00t:

I'm in the same boat and see loads of people down my local most days living off free handouts but I stupidly put rainy day money away so get nowt!

You must have got JSA for 6 months though as everyone is entitled to that regardless of savings.

Bin men don't visit houses anymore do they?
They visit streets or areas, they used to walk right up the path, lift the old style metal bins and bring them back
As CSIMan said with regards to water, gas and ambulances/NHS
Not 100% sure but i think you get charged 50% Council tax even if your property is empty which makes even more of a mockery of CT.

Speaking of fair, this is one of the most shocking schemes i have ever read
    link
So for those who have run up debt and decided to do their level best to pay honestly their debts and still cop for the 6 year rule.......
