How long needed on passport to travel to Bulgaria?

    Oh hai!

Anyone know the rules on travelling to Bulgaria from UK in regards to passport expiry?

Im flying out for the new year from december 28th - jan 5th

However my passport runs out in feb 2012 - I hear there are different details and u can travel up to the las day of your passport to some countries? Is this so for Bulgaria? Or will I need to renew?

    cheers

Why not just renew it anyway, you'll need to soon enough.

For travel to most countries, a British passport must remain valid for at least six months after your scheduled return to the UK. Please contact the embassy of your destination country for the most up-to-date information

If you renew now they will give you the 10 years starting from Jan 5th (effectively a 10.5 year duration in other words) so it's a no-brainer really

    renew it

it is absolutely ridiculous to not renew when you have plenty of time to do so, as said the time left on this passport is added to new one

Bulgaria Is fine to enter as long as the passport is valid, you do not need 6 months or anything like that. As long as its valid whilst you are there.

    Entry requirements

    Entry Requirements - Passport Validity
You must hold a valid passport to enter Bulgaria. For stays of up to three months your passport must be valid for the proposed duration of your stay; you do not need any additional period of validity on your passport beyond this. However, it is always sensible to have a short period of extra validity on your passport in case of any unforeseen delays to your departure. You do not have to wait until your old passport expires to apply to renew it. Any time left on your old passport when you apply will be added to your new passport, up to a maximum of nine months. For passport applications in the UK, you should apply to the Identity and Passport Service. For stays of longer than three months, contact the Embassy of the country to which you are travelling.

and if anything should happen to you or any member of your family, heaven forbid, and you need to spend alot longer there then the last thing you need to be worrying about is your passport expiring whilst there

    six months

On the other hand why renew if you don't have to. if the OP is not planning another trip till late 2012 or even 2013 then that could be a year wasted.

    tug boat

    six months

Why post that when i have already posted the official entry requirements, which state you done need any specific time left on your passport, just the for the passport to be valid for the duration of your stay.
