did you buy the sausage fresh or frozen? most fresh sausages state on packet-freeze on day of purchase and consume within one month.

I wouldnt eat them after a month then-others may tell you different

Yes they will be absolutely fine! My parents and my friend's parents eat stuff from the freezer that's been in there over a year.

yup i think they'll be fine. i usually keep meat for upto 2 months in the freezer

    they will be fine

I just threw out a nuke meal that I removed from the freezer with a use-by date on it of Aug 2009 :w00t:

I would have eaten that, no problem

    From the foods standards agency:

How long can I keep foods in the freezer?
This depends on the type of food and also on your freezer. It’s a good idea to check any instructions on food labels, or in the handbook for your freezer, on how long food should be frozen.

In theory, food could be safe to eat after years in the freezer, as long as it has stayed frozen during that time. But it may not be very nice to eat, because the taste and texture of food changes if it is frozen for too long.

    +1

I have never understood why a bought frozen product can be frozen for a year+ but they say if you freeze fresh you can only do it for a month. If you only have a month you may as well leave it in the fridge as buying a month is hardly worth it.

a few months. less than a year.

I've eaten meat from a freezer that's probably been years old in the past, So long as it remains frozen and you cook it properly it should be fine.

In fact I've eaten frozen sausages before and I'm still alive..!!!

She means 2 years ago she found stuff that was dated 2002 - making it 6 years old at the time of finding. Am I right?

OP - the meat will be fine as long as it has been in a proper freezer and not just the icebox in a fridge.

I know what she meant.I was having a laugh, hence the giggle.

:giggle: I got you phil!!! ;-)

I would personally eat meat from the freezer within 3 months that's about it!

I think the manufacturers are just covering themselves and also they want you to throw it away so you have to buy more.

I put all kinds of meat in my freezer for up to a year and it always comes out fine. Its the defrosting you need to pay more concern too. Some people really do it wrong.

My mate complained that a takeaway gave him food poisoning at the weekend until I told him that it wasnt the best idea in the world to defrost frozen king prawns in a bowl of hot water earlier that day for lunch! :w00t:

jeeze i have bacon and sausage in my freezer thats probs a year old, will still eat it, you will know by the stench if its safe to eat

If sausages are frozen and stay frozen, they'll be safe to eat for years, as long as they were safe to eat when they were frozen.
A couple of months is no problem.

The labelling you get on packaging is belt & braces.

    Think of those Siberian mammoths!
