How many people have made some big savings with the VAT reduction?

I was just thinking about how the VAT rate is going up again soon and it got me wondering just how much I have saved over the past few months as a result of the change.

The only shop I've actually noticed the change in is Primark - you get to the tills and actually get money taken off the ticket price. Ooh and my o2 phone bill has been a few pence lower. I bought something from Early Learning Centre not so long ago for £9.99. £25 for a shirt at Debenhams. And £8.95 for some CDs the other day. I'm guessing these shops have just been keeping an extra 2.5% for themselves??

I want to buy a new TV but unfortunately can't afford it this year I was wondering how much you think/have noticed yourselves saving??

Honestly?

The shops have added the extra 2.5% back on. Well, the supermarkets have anyway.

Some stores absorbed the savings.

Haha very good point!!

Is it wrong for retailers to have profited a little from the VAT change? After all they are supposedly one of the hardest hit sectors...

A lot of people have saved loads when buying say a new car...
Or people that have moved house and bought new sofa, tv, kitchen, bathroom, etc

Yeh its meaningless for small items but the large ones it can add up

I bought a second hand car in August for 7,995. Does that count?

Depends if it was from a dealer

I'm sure we all noticed how much cheaper petrol has been all year - NOT?
