How many squares on this chessboard do not have a rook on them?

8*8-64-3=61 assuming those pics represent chess "rooks"

125 as there is also the larger square of the board, plus squares made of squares eg 2x2 3x3 4x4 etc

Edit: sorry explained that wrong as I was thinking of an example of just a plain chessboard I did on an enhanced thinking course. But my answer still stands.

Sorry for the delay! I had to retrace my steps through the site I got this from to check it again. The answer is indeed 125.

darn diggidy, i obviously cant count

this reminds me of a crooked accountant i knew, could drag numbers out of no where
