But we don’t know the rules about taking food into the country. — David Martin, Guildford, SurreyIn line with many other countries, the US has strict rules about the kind of food tourists can bring in. Breads, cakes, biscuits and other bakery goods are approved, but many cheeses are off limits and alcohol is restricted. So your Christmas puddings and mince pies should be OK, but you might run into problems if your luggage contains port and stilton or chocolate liqueurs.Rules on meat products vary according to the product’s country of origin. Consult the websites of the US Embassy (www.usembassy.org.uk, look at the FAQs in the US Custom & Border Protection section) and the US Customs Service (www.cbp.gov, questions section).

taking sweets into the USA is fine but dairy products are not. I don't know which chocolate is classed as (it *may* be classed as a dairy product due to the milk content). It might depend on how over zealous the customs poeple are being when you arrive.

Apart from the dairy issue, Choclate and Coffee has always tried to be used to "cover up" the sent of drugs, hence why customs will/can track it down.

Take a look on H&M Customs and the US.
Last time I went I took a lot of chocolate in a suitcase for a friend over there. I don't blame them after tasting the choc there.

It can't be any worst than the muck that passes for chocolate over here !!

You obviously havent tried Americas favourite 'Hersheys', best way i can describe the taste is when you throw up a little in your mouth. :w00t:
You can take as much chocolate into the US as you want.
Don't know if there is a limit, once when we went took over a small suitcase with Cadbury Easter Eggs in, and used the suitcase for coming back with any extra clothes we bought whilst over in the USA.

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday.

ROTFL! It is disgusting, leaves a wax like film in the roof of your mouth, be warned, no one try Kit Kats in the USA, Hershey's chocolate instead of Nestlé and the wafer doesn't taste the same either, disgusting.

Let's hope that Best Buy over here don't start selling any.
:thumbsup:well i mixed reaction, think i'm just going to risk it and leave them in the case and see what hapens

Sorry posted thread in lunch break so just got back on now:thumbsup:
take a few extra bars to bribe the fatties at security
i once took an entire suitcase full of various things, mostly lemon puff biscuits!

the american chocolate varies, hershey bars bad, reeses stuff is good though!

If i were you, i'd take some tea bags, they are pretty dire there, and all the cereal has enough sugar to kill, so think carefully!

Have you actually done any grocery shopping whilst in the US? I was amazed at the amount of choice of cereals they have in comparison to here in the UK, certainly if you buy the right healthy cereals the same as you can here you don't have that problem, just avoid things like "Lucky Charms"

The stuff over there is hideous. I've tried a fair amount and it's disgusting, a friend over there has tried every variety in his search for something decent and he said there's nothing.

I don't know anyone in this country who doesn't like any of the chocolate you get over here. I think the biggest issue here is whether you're a Galaxy or a Dairy Milk person.

Put the chocolate in your hold luggage and make sure you declare it on the form. Shouldnt have any problem ive visited usa 7 times now and my girlfriend likes uk chocolate so i have to take a few bars plus a couple of boxes to keep the peace lol. This time it was bars of bourneville plain plus a box of maltezers and black magic
It is my understanding the the US has Cadburys now anyway. Hersheys manufactures Cadburys and the last person I spoke to from San Diego said she has Cadburys easter eggs at easter etc
