    Tooooooooooo Much

    Depends on your rate..

    Standard rate is normally

£X amount for the first X amount of units, then a lower £X amount for the rest of the units.

There isn't much between them big companies in per year cost to be honest, if you go onto something like moneysupermarket they're all within £20/30 of eachother per year cost.

No company is ever the cheapest consistently

Do you know how much you currently pay?

Well my electricity direct debit is £100 a month or so, but then i've got a wife and 1 year old at home. So we use quite allot of electricity compared to the average user.

Then again we have managed to drop our monthly user from 26-29kWh per day to 17kWh a day over the last 3 months

This is what my last bill says though:

    First 53 kWh x 22.765p
    Next 757 kWh x 9.879p

I'm on the standard rate - and that was for the period between 16th Jan - 23rd of Feb.

I may change our rate to WebSaver 7 - seems like it may be cheaper then.

I say this as I took a meter reading. It was 10496/466 when I moved in (05/02/10) is now 10562/127 Today 28th May. As I have no been billed due to the estate agent being useless.

So i have used 66 imperial units. Converted into kWh. Comes up with a staggering 2082.525401.

Which is a lot of gas.

You think that's bad.. My last Gas bill:

    First 272.00 kWh x 6.621p =
    Next 4869.28 kWh x 3.050p =

For period of 18th of Dec - 3rd of Feb

That's a cost of £139 per month for the 3 month period - i did everything i could to not strangle my wife for keeping the heating on to much.. I put in a thermostat, so that can NEVER happen again.. As she used to forget to switch off the heating.

it says on that guide to only read the first 4 numbers on the metre.... i used to work for npower but it was a while ago... i'm sure you only read 4 numbers and electricity is 5

Yerp, it's the first 4 digits, but i got the feeling they may drop the first one.

Well the guess has only been on mainly because I have had days where I been that ill just before it warmed up where I'd have the fire on in the front room. Everything else is mainly electric, refused to have the heating on full stop in this house. As the front room is the only one mainly used.

I caculated on old figure at the bill being for that period over £130. Guessing it might be more.

Well since you live in the house i used to, my average gas bill cost in that place was £35 a month.. So i wouldn't worry to much.

I also hardly ever used the central heating, just the gas fire.

Just depends entirely on how much you've used the gas fire, check with British Gas. See what they say about the readings and then ask how much the cost is.

Theres no need to use the central heating because of the size of the front room, and the fact it tends to heat the rest of the house.

    Yeah

Just ring British Gas, ask them to tell you how much the cost is based on the readings.

That way you'll know if you're interrupting the readings correctly.

Simply untrue. Atlantic / Southern Electric are £200 per year more EON for my area / usage. They used to be the cheapest but now the most expensive. I switch every 6-12 months as £100s of quidco available :-D

Yeah but the south has far more competition does it?.. Quite look on moneysupermarket puts them all within £20/30 of eachother in my area, i'm guessing shropshire is about the same.

Adam lives in Shropshire, in the same house i used to.

Aye.. Quick look on moneysupermarket for where Adam lives..

    Npower
    First: Utility
    eon
    EDF Energy
    Southern Electric
    British Gas
    Scottish power
    Atlantic

Guess it must do. Something must explain why you pay about 30% more per kwh for electric and 20% more for gas than I do :w00t:

I'm on the standard rate - so i do get a discount back. But i do need to get round to changing it, as Web Saving 7 rate is around £200 a year cheaper.

I really need to start doing that Quidco stuff, everyone talks about it and i just never bother.

Think while my son is having his birthday on Saturday, with the hordes of mothers and babys which are visiting for the party.. I'll hide away in my office and look into it.
