How Much Does it Cost to Transfer a Private Registration Number to a New Car?

Posted 21st May 2017
I've got a custom registration on my car and was wondering how much it is to transfer it to a new car?

I'm under the impression that it's £80 to move it to retention, is it another £80 to assign the plate? or is that inclusive with the retention?

Cheers.

Thanks for the completely un-funny, sarcastic link which I've obviously already checked (_;)

I'm still waiting for an actual answer if anyone wants to clarify from personal experience

Obviously? Sorry I can't read minds, & unfortunately, a lot of people do post, asking questions, without googling.

Although in this case you are not one of those people. So, I am sorry

£80 and your old car should get the original no plate allocated back to it.

It's £80(or was last time I done mine) to either move it to another vehicle or to retain it.

If you retain it then you can then put it on a car in the future with no further cost, as far as I am aware.

In all honesty, the link kindly sent, it gives you the information you're asking for.
Retention information is stated on the first page, and further down, a link for putting it on a new vehicle.

Took me 1 minute to read & understand.
It's took you about 30 minutes for your answer.

I have just done this today, old car had the plates. I have put the plate on retention and it gave me a new logbook with the old reg. I have transferred the plate to my new car by putting in the logbook number and the retention number to swap it over. It was £80 to do the lot

That's how George Best lost his license so many times, advertises to the Police to pull the car over.

also you can do it all online now as well. before by post used to take 2-4weeks. I got a new car and a new private number plate (had to wait for the car logbook V5). done it online and the min I finished I was able 2 put the number plates on my car.
you can do the same to remove the plates. but can only do it online during normal working hours.

it is around £80 to move the plate or put or put it in retain.
