How much does it cost to wash your car with a power washer?

Does anybody have a rough idea as to the running cost of a power washer? My son has been using one for around 40 minutes to wash his car and I'm wondering how much that is costing me? Thank you.

Would depend on price of electricity etc but you can figure it out here switchwise.co.uk/cos…ur/ then the cost of the water if your on a meter.

depends do u have a water meter if not then it will be just the electricity which u can roughly work out looking at its power consumption u will need to factor in the time he isn't actually using it as doubt he used it 40 mins flatout

Not sure, but if I pop over will he do mine too?

    Tight ****

    Lmao

40mins? Does he drive an artic?!

To me 40 mins seems excessive. Takes me 5 mins to wash off our large estate. Another 5 mins after foam. Done. Total 10 mins of water and electricity. Maybe charge him for anything in excess of 15 mins?

Take down the car wash, they do a cracking hand job for a fiver

    £14.27p

Is that a guess then, if not, how did you come to that figure? Thank you.

They do? That's a bargain. Are the staff attractive, or should I just close my eyes and imagine it's someone else?

If it's your power washer don't forget to factor in wear and tear....(_;)

lol, really lol. some tight people out there... Worst case scenario: 2kw, 40 minutes constant use, 10p a kw = 13 pence, plus 200 litres of water, not sure of the price of that as I live in socialists Scotland and we don't have water meters

    Thank you.

I take a couple of hours to wash a car but I've got a bit OCD. People are always walking past and ask why I use two buckets, so spend a few minutes explaining the two bucket method ha.
I've been doing it for years and never noticed any big bills.
Hes just taking care of his pride and joy, as long as hes paying rent let him be... Then ask him to do your's after :-)

    What a delightful tale.

Lol not sure if serious post.

Get yourself a self cleaning car like I have (a bit like a self cleaning oven).

Does he know that using a power washer can seriously damage the car paintwork if not used correctly. Would never risk using it on my car. And if he's taking 40 minutes he's taking the pi**. Although I must admit we have the same problem with our daughter when she's in the shower.

I find it very hard to understand why anyone would take 40 minutes to power wash one car, BUT, it he's using your pressure washer, I hope its a decent one, 40mins regular use with a cheap will see you shopping for a new one....

I'd be more worried about how frequently he takes a number two and how many flushes it requires..

cost of the water will be pennies - a cubic metre (1000 litres) is less than £1, electricity for a 1.5Kwh pressure washer about 20p per hour.

Mmmm I'd be more worried about having to pay to have the whole car resprayed, remember these things remove stains from concrete... including paint stains.. Car be down to bare metal.

you two do realise it is almost impossible to damage the paint with a domestic pressure washer, right? you'd have to use the small concentrated nozzle at full blast 0.1cm from the paintwork to have even a slight chance of causing damage

You sure I removed paint from a door and this was a small pressure washer I was using. Water is hitting the surface that fast its like sand, I dunno but I wouldnt use one on my car.
