How much water do you drink and how has it affected your skin and health?!

I'm a true believer in drinking lots of water (around 3-4 litres a day) and have done for around 5 years now. My Mum is the same and we both have excellent skin and people are very surprised when I say she's 53 rather than early 40's! My Grandmother (on my Dad's side of the family) is also the same and she's now 98 with no health problems!
So... What I'm really interested in, is are there any of you out there who have drank a lot of water your whole life, and have you "reaped the rewards" or is there anyone who thinks it's a load of tosh?!

You lose 1-1.5 litres of water a day naturally... you have to replace it somehow!

There might be something in it, as I hardly ever drink water, no where near as much as you & I got a mild form of seborrhoeic dermatitis from my skin being so dry all the time, drinking more water, does seem to help, hydrating it.

i dont really drink too much water but still have great skin and it regenerates very well and i very rarely scar. I have burnt my face a few times (Long story) and there is not a single scar to prove it.

However, i went throught phase in my life where i did drink alot fo water which was warm. This helped to flush my system and resulted in better concentration and fitness.

Water is a great substance and drinking lots of it can benifit you both in keeping your brain healthy and your body as it takes away your hunger. good think you and your mum are doing

I do think it helps, when I drink more my skin is generally better.

My Grandmama is a big believer in this and her skin has always been perfect.

I don't even drink water usually. I think it would be a good habit to get into though.

well i drink the same amount in wine a day and always getting told how young i look ! lol, ..........joking :D.
Water is good for you and purfies your body and if enough is drank then keeps your skin hydrated , hence giving you younger looking skin .

There is only a certain amount of water in foods. If you eat fruit and vegetables all day then obviously there will be more water in that as it's around 50-90% water depending on what it is... but if you have a rubbish diet, you won't be getting nearly enough!

I think drinking water does you good in many ways but Im not sure it gives you 'good' skin. Im always getting told i look a lot younger to the point that it gets annoying but I don't drink any where near as much water as i should (trying to rectify that though)

I dont drink tea or coffee, only drink water or orange juice.

Good thing to do, I need to swap some of my tea drinks for water

This is true, i drink loads every day and my skin is perfect.

I must admit i tend to drink more water in the summer months than the winter though , obviously needed more in the hot weather when sweating etc ,

Btw , does anyone only drink bottled water ? ............or quite happy to drink it from the tap ? ...or do what i do buy a small bottle and then refill from the tap X)

watyer is used to help flush your system out and to aid the removal of toxins through peeing and crapping. the food you eat may have water in it but what is the harm of having a bit more to give it that extra push. Also, now that alot of people work at computers and the stress of your job people often forget or are too busy to get off their chair and walk and dont get the amount of water (and food in some cases) they need.

We could externinate a whole branch of medicine....dermatologists.............just strap a hydration pack to every human who has a skin complaint. Force them to take vast quantities of fluid and they will be CURED

So glad your family genes benefit from great youthful skin, if you are happy to consume more than you need then keep going. But please do not try to imply that any medical conditions are related to your fluid intake, gives people false hope, makes them feel guilty for no good reason. Thise who are ill with problems don't need this(_;)

Spent last summer with my father in law in south of France. One of the hottest summers they have had for a while. I was drinking about 2 litres per day. He just had his tea each morning, small glass orange at lunch and half a cup of tea in the evening (he did not want to get up for a P in the night!).

I was so worried about him becoming dehydrated because we were doing lots of trekking.....he was totally fine, probably fitter than me............he is 89 and I am 52.

When did I say that I've cured any medical conditions?! Nutter alert! Your FIL may not feel ill, but I bet he's mega dehydrated!

im not a tea or coffee drinker either........ a nice drop of vimto or robinsons is just the ticket.... also stay away from fizzy drinks, just isnt the same as water.

I drink 2 cups of tea a day and 2 glasses of water a day knowdays, i try to drink more but hate going to the loo so i avoid it as much as i can but agree with you it does have a positive affect on your skin

Lol we do the same, buy a pack of small bottles and then just refill them with tap water

I used to have really bad acne, tried all the creams and pills the doctors recommended which did nothing - except my skin very painful and dry.

Decided (somewhat randomly) to start drinking a lot of water as I had read an article that water is the skin. Started drinking 8 or 9 pints a day - my skin cleared up in a matter of weeks, and whilst I drink nowhere near that amount of water now, I haven't had a spot since.

It can definitely work wonders. The only problem with it is that you're constantly running to the toilet!

I have awesome skin. Had the cold maybe five or six times in thirty years, never had the flu, never really had any health problems except with issues relating to my brain. Rarely have anything to drink.

One thing i noticed about folk who drink a lot is they seem to struggle maintaining the weight.

drink on ave at least 2 litres a day, I rarely get spots so duno if its related or not lol

Well if he was dehydrated last summer, we certainly would have seen the symptoms (within 24 hrs).........my point is, we did'nt, he was very fit and active for the whole trip.

Think back, that generation just do not consider drinking lots of fluids generally. Bottles of water, it's just a fashion. OK if you enjoy it then great. We all need enough fluids. Most of us get it without thinking about it.

We celebrated his 90th ;last week.

I am sure he is not the exeption(_;)

Im rubbish with not drinking enough, like really bad.. When I am good though (rarely) my skin is better, but using a Clarisonic cleanser has helped my skin much more than drinking ever has. Lack of sleep shows in my skin, it ends up greyish when Im tired and/or stressed!
My fiance always has lovely skin though and he drinks plenty.. and he hardly ever uses soap on his face.. its kinda 'ewwww' but there you go! lol
