How much water should you drink in a day?

What is a safe amount to drink?

What is the least amount you should be drinking?

It all depends on how much energy you use, how hot it is, what sized person you are, how much you sweat etc.
So the best thing to do is just drink when you are thirsty and not to follow a set amount.

    about 2 litres

How many pints are in a litre?

    4 weeks tmrw .......... aarrggggghhhhhhhhhh

According to the UK Food Standards Agency, what we need is about six to eight glasses of fluids a day - about 1.2 litres in total (bit less than 2 and a quarter pints)

But not more than 2 pints in any one hour!!!

Bout tree fiddy (about 1 and 3/4 of a pint to a ltre)

    Good luck mate.

I probs drink on average at least 2 litres a day maybe even up to 3 litres.

but I'm not forcing it down myself all the time, and I do about half an hours worth of exercise most evenings so I think its ok...I hope lol

As much as you feel the need to drink. Half the stuff we're told just seems to be rubbish these days. Like basing meals around starch foods and trying to avoid fatty foods.

There's no set amount, we're all different shapes and sizes, have different rates of metabolism etc. Drink when your thirsty, if your wee is very yellow drink more cos your probably dehydrated. Don't drink too much though.

take your weight in lbs, divide by 2 and drink that amount in fluid oz's

eg is you weigh 200lbs drink 100 fl oz's (5 pints)

This is true, it should a light straw colour; if you drink too much, you will be losing a lot of minerals along with the fluids.

    water? like from the toilet?

water is good for you but if you are hot and sweaty the best drink for you is a cup of tea

    why? i hear you say..
well if you are hot and dehydrated and you have a freezing cold glass of water, your body uses more energy warming the liquid to your core temperature than using it to hydrate you. The best thing to do is have a warm beverage ie Tea then the body will accept the hot liquid and use it to cool the body temp down and rehydrate you...

If you are going to be doing a lot of exercise then you need to be taking in fluids around an hour before you go .. this gives the body time to get the fluid into your system - and you need to be pi$$ing clear at least once a day, this lets you know your body has enough fluid and you're not dehydrated - although drinking beer/lager etc doesn't count ...

If you force yourself to drink too much you're putting extra strain your kidneys that have to deal with the extra fluids.

Drink when you're thirsty and - hardly rocket science.

Cant remember when i last drank water...

    I drink:

    Tea
    Diluted Orange
    Cider
    Diet Coke
    Milk
    Lucozade
    Blackcurrent

    Does me alright

    bout tree fiddy

Don't drink water with a meal as it solidify's any fat in the system. If possible drink a hot or slightly warm drink.

Depends on your height, weight, and age.

Your kindeys can happily filter 1l an hour.

    Probably an email like this.

Email example contributed by Richard L., 21 July 2006:

    Cold Water = CANCER

Drinking cold water after meal = Cancer!
    (this is not a joke)

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.

Once this "sludge" reacted with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine.

Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

    Must be the Daily Mail.

There's no scientific basis for the claim that cold water will "solidify the oily stuff" you have just consumed, or that this "sludge" will "line the intestine," let alone "turn into fats" and "lead to cancer."

It's mumbo-jumbo, and self-contradictory mumbo-jumbo at that. The email states that drinking cold water "slows down the digestion," yet in the very next sentence declares that it will cause the your stomach contents to "break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster." Which is it?

What studies do exist mainly extoll the benefits of drinking cold water, especially during and after vigorous exercise. Cold water is absorbed by the body more quickly than warm water and can help lower one's body temperature, preventing dehydration.

yeah try not to drink 2 litres an hour, don't wanna end up like Leah Betts

oh wait hold on, they blamed drugs for that, oh well

Im currently working with a nutritionalist and he says:

1 litre of pure water for every 20kg of body weight, also not use tapwater as its high in pesicides, flouride an chlorine.
Apparently the latter 2 (flouride and chlorine), inhibit your thyroid from functioning properly.

Probably best not to drink out of a plastic bottle either as not exactly good for you either. I once had a nutritionist inform me that eating fatty foods leads to high cholesterol, which in turn increases chances of heart disease.

Is dilute juice anywhere near a good substitute for plain water?
