How strict are RyanAir for hand luggage weight?

As title, they state 10kg but do they actually weigh them? I have no bags to check in so will be going straight through security? Just worried mine will be over the limit however the size is within the limits. Anyone had any problems? Cheers.

Flying from leeds bradford. The size of the bag is fine.

Yes, be very careful with the size more than worrying about an extra kilo

Make sure you wear something with big pockets, once on the flight empty your pockets and put into bag. You could also wear some of your stuff and later put into bag

They might just do checks at Prestwick as they are the sole operater from there.

But I'd ask someone who has flown from Leeds Bradford recently as the staff won't let you away with anything if they catch you

Hopefully someone on here has flown from leeds with ryanair recently then and spots this, quite nervous now as I don't have any scales to weigh this bag with.

Go to one of the empty check-in points and use the scales there.

If you are over, stuff pockets etc with heavy stuff like books, shoes etc.

If you have a poundland near you its only £1 poundland.co.uk/pro…pe/ (with a tape measure oO )

just recently travlled from both Stanstead and Luton! Bag was not weighed !

We flew Bournemouth-Majorca and back last week with ryanair.

Our cabin bags were not weighed at all but they were hot on measuring the ones that looked big. They were making some people put them in the measuring stands just before they boarded.

One woman got hit for 35 euro.

easyjet are saying if your bag is too big they will charge £30 for it at check-in..or if it isnt noticed til the gate £50!
Guess who will have the tape measures out?

I've just flown with ryanair from Liverpool and they didn't weigh them nor have they ever weighed mine from liverpool.

I just flew with a budget airline within Australia. I was allowed 20kg on my checked in luggage and when i weighed it in it was 24kg. The bloke said your case is to heavy, can you please open it and remove a jumper all something. I took a sweatshirt out and he said that would be fine now.... lol
It's still the same weight going on the plane whether i pack it or carry it.

As for Ryanair, i have used them 6 times and never been approached once but that is because i play by their rules and not mine. I have seen so many people get stopped and charged because their luggage is not to Ryanairs rules.
These people then come onto hukd's and complain about Ryanair lol

we go from stansted,
they are strict with suitcase weight,
strict with hand luggage size,
but they'v never weighed our hand luggage,
so we pack more or less everything in our hand luggage!

Scoff - same here they have never even checked the size of our luggage when checking others as we have bags exactly there specified size so must be able to tell we will fit but I always say the same when queuing and people are being stopped and I can clearly see their bags are too big 'if this is their first time with ryanair they aren't gonna be happy cos it's gonna cost'

Just stick to the rules, you will have no problem.

Break the rules, you could well end up paying the price.

If you have scales at home or any of your mates do just stand on the scales whilst holding your luggage, get off then stand back on minus your luggage, you'll get an accurate weight.

You cannot do that with hand luggage, they check the weight at the boarding gate.

inb4 terrorist incident and news headline "walked straight through security"

Love the fact that RyanAir restrict you to 10Kg in one bag including duty free purchases yet EasyJet allow you to carry as much weight as you want in the one bag.
I make a habit of carrying a bag full of lead just so I get my moneys worth

not on international flights they dont

im not familiar with the ways of ryan air.....so maybe its a different regime, ill take your word for it

When I flew Stansted - Latvia, Bristol - Malta and Bristol - Majorca this year they always checked the size of bag if it looked too big right before boarding but I have never seen them weigh them. I guess it depends which airport you fly out of. I find it difficult to get over 10kg into the bags anyway TBH.

When I flew with ryanair from LBA last year I never saw them weigh any hand luggage, they looked more interested in whether bags were oversized. As long as you don't look like your struggling to carry it I bet
you could get away with being a bit over. (thats my hope for when I fly with them in June!)

I have seen Ryanair weigh hand luggage at Alicante Airport on a regular basis, they seem to do it randomly.

Very costly if you are caught out.

They are pretty strict and do enforce the size rules particularly. Ryanair are known for trying to catch people out and so before any Ryanair flight I would recommend weighing your hand luggage and checking up on the Ryanair hand luggage limits. They were even caught out on paying 50p extra to staff for each baggage fee!

Just play by Ryanair rules, you will not have a problem.

Note this thread is almost 2 years old.oO

i flew from bristol and they made every passenger going out put their bag on the scales and also in the crate thing to see if it fell through the bottom

I fly 4 or 5 times a year from Stansted with Ryanair and never had handluggage weighed...theres simply no time ...they call your flight ano you only have 30 minutes approx to get to the Gate and queue. If the handluggage looks big they will pull you out. If they checked all handluggage for weight they wouldn't keep within their very short turnaround time.
