How to fix Philips Car stereo volume wheel

I have a philips car stereo CEM3100 and it works fine apart from the volume knob which sometimes puts the volume down when im turning it up. Ive looked online and i think its a common problem and it has something to do with the electrical contact. Any tips on how to fix it? Dont want to buy a whole face plate when it might be an easy fix. Thanks a lot.

Try cleaning the contacts with alcohol and a cotton bud, also one set of contacts will probably by sprung, make sure one or more of them isn't bent, if it is gently bend it until it lines up with the others

This isn't just confined to Phillips car stereos, most of these limitless free spinning controls do this eventually. Initially you can help by spinning the control a few full turns to clean contacts. Then dismantle, clean and eventually dispose. Or do what I do in my Zafira and use the steering wheel controls, finally bothered to learn which one is which after 15 years.
