How to get 18 consecutive days off next year for just 9 days of annual leave

Hopefully this helps most people out when planning holidays in 2017.

moneysavingexpert.com/dea…ve/

The way the bank holidays fall in April and May in 2017 allows you to string them together with annual leave to give yourself a nice long break from work (sorry bosses of the UK). This didn’t happen this year as there was too big of a gap between the bank holidays – but in 2017 and for the first time since 2014, we’ve hit the holiday jackpot.

This blog assumes you work the standard Monday - Friday, so apologies to those with unconventional hours or those who can’t choose their own leave, such as teachers.

18 consecutive days off in April for the price of 9

The Easter bank holidays in 2017 falls late this year on 14th April (Good Friday) and 17th April (Easter Monday) and with the May Day bank holiday on Monday 1st May, it means by taking nine days annual leave in between those dates (18-21 and 24-28 April), you’ll get 18 consecutive days off work.

10 consecutive days off in December for the price of three

In 2017, December 23 and 24 falls over a weekend, with Christmas and Boxing Day giving you Monday and Tuesday off. If you take 27-29 Dec as annual leave, with New Year’s Day falling on a Monday, it’ll mean you won’t be back at work until Tuesday 2 Jan – a total of 10 days off for the price of three.

By using both of these tricks, you can bag some serious chill time – and in most cases, still have over half of your annual leave still left – hallelujah! Of course if you don’t work Monday to Friday, or can’t choose your own leave then this might not work for you.

I know it's not for everyone unfortunately and will be the same for my Wife which then won't work for me as we take time off together

I thought about this and thought it's a Freebie deal for those that can take advantage of their Annual Leave and yes I know it does not work for all as I'm in this boat, sort of.

I think it's great how you've made the effort to work this out and to share it

I love posts like this! Thanks.

heat for effort!

Not as good as xmas this year: 10 days straight for only 3 days of annual leave.

supermod

Moved to misc as info, thanks

I hate it when people do this.

Unfortunately I cannot take credit for this but thought I'd share this on HUKD's as not everyone is signed up to MoneySavingExpert's emails.

At the bottom of the post I have mentioned credit goes to MoneySavingExpert's Coupon Kid, Jordon Cox.

So the trick is knowing when there are bank holidays which are shown on every calendar?! oO

I works all bank holidays and every weekend, how many days off do I get?

Hate is such a strong word but it has been moved to Misc which should please you now

I wish I had thought of making a site that is just stating the bleeding obvious! I'd be minted by now!

Personally I think this is great for you to post. Usually I don't plan my holiday that far in advance, but I may do next year as this sounds great. Thanks OP for pointing this out to us.

great, tourist spots even more rammed with prices sky high. no thanks.

Thanks OP, this is brilliant! I'll be filling in my hols tomorrow for those dates

if you take the 18 days consecutive it means you obviously have less smaller breaks
hardly rocket science - same number of days off!

Is this mandatory?

I work in retail, & may, or may not, be religious, but I want to work on Father Christmas Day, or the day after that, next year.

(My family all work in the same store, so we can be together on that day, in case you were wondering)

I think I'm being told what to think & what to do in another thread, but the Coupon Kid has now got me all confused.

Perhaps I should quit my job by early December so I do not offend anybody.

Do you think Jordon Cox can find me some food coupons for the last three weeks of December?

You sure he didn't mean hating it being moved to MISC ?

To the negative ones past, present and future posts....

I don't get paid for doing this or any bonuses so why would I be hating the move to Misc?

Just a simple mistake by myself that hardly ever posts on this site.

Clearly I've annoyed people with my mistake and think people not exhibiting, requiring, or capable of serious thought are well, fairly lonely and sad with their life.

Pick yourself up, dust yourself down and go out and play nicely with others as opposed to criticising others for their blunders.

Enjoy

Thanks for info will definitely come in handy.

Now if a holiday deals comes up with those dates, then that would be even sweeter

The limit has already been reached for one organiation i know of so op was not the only one to have workedvthis out

Working on a 4 on 4 off shift i get 12 days off for 4 days leave or 20 days off for 8 days leave so its cold from me (_;)

Requested the April ones. thanks! (already have the Christmas ones book off)

Perhaps in your case, but in most standard cases as described in the OP, this year folks need take 4 days leave for 10 off, compared to 3 next year.

Woosh! You've obviously missed the point of this post. Yes, using any of your leave will mean you have less available, but it is not just the "same number of days off": in most standard cases 18 days off would cost most people 12 days leave. So if you did want this amount of time off, the OP is highlighting the most economical way of doing this - you save 3 days!

Therefore (and to all the other moaners) this surely fits with the ethos of this site.

Sweet

best deal on HUKD so far. nothing buys time. money comes and goes, time you can never get back. thanks for this OP.
