How to get better picture on PS2 from HD TV

I have a Sony KDL50W829B 50 inch tv and want to get a decent picture from the PS2.

Wondering if you have any ideas, have googled for it and most say to buy a component cable, the price of the good ones seem to be the same or more of the cost of the PS2. If there are any good cables for a decent price I would go down this route.

Is this the best solution or is there a way to just change the settings on the TV or PS2.

That is a solution...but not one I was expecting.

And I already have one.

yep a component cable is the way to go, it falls somewhere between scart and HDMI if I remember correctly, have had my old DVD player connected like that for years

Ask Ronaldo to send you a good cable

Don't worry about good ones! Just buy any the difference is unnoticeable

The PS2 is from long before even FHD was common, so you are reliant on the upscaling capabilities of the TV; I am guessing from what you say, they arent that good.

Component cables will help a bit, but not as much as you would want; the difference isnt huge.

Next time you change your TV, make sure you get one with good upscaling.

Some of the older PS3s can play PS2 games. you could play them via one of these using an HDMI cable.

Amazon had cheap component cables, they work though unlike some expensive ones. Check on there. On another note, I plugged in my ps2 and noticed that the picture on the slim console is better, the fat has a cartoon image on the game San Andreas. Use a slim for that extra bit of clearness.

I use a PS2 emulator on my PC and most games run well upscaled to 1080p so worth looking into if you have a gamign pc etc already

That's because a emulator can upscale many times what the original console could put out.

I agree about using a emulator though.

PC has a better renderer and filters that the PS2/PS3 doesn't have. Most PS2 games are 480p but there's a few 1080i games out there.

The PS2 like the Wii is better seen on a good CRT in EDTV/480p

Weird that the original Xbox upscales to 1080i easily with most games and looks amazing.
