Does it not just mean GPRS connection?

i.e. not 3G/H

i think so but i wana get rid of it,so does it suppose to be there all the time?

of course it's supposed to be there, it's indicating you have a 3g connection

put sellotape over it.

lol but some phone don't have it or one can remove it and i used the same sim in sonyericsson without the g on it

Go into Vodafone shop and set up a web-cam/hidden cam.
Ask them for help and say you want it removed.
Go back next day and remove the web-cam/hidden-cam
What the staff say once you leave will be popcorn-tastic

Edit:

Ok, sorry, that post wasn't helpful
Go here for the user manual
Go to page 32. If you toggle to when needed that *might* turn off the G(PRS)

Nah, you just need it for accessing the net, might also be for receiving MMS messages, depends on how your phone deals with them.....best really to have it on but personal choice

Edit: wikipedia's take on GPRS
