    How to sell an eBay business?

    I've run a business on eBay for about 9 years and due to hikes in postage charges and eBay fees, I declared the business officially dead earlier this month as I have gone from having 50-60 sales per day during November and December to a maximum of five, with a three day gap with no sales whatsoever. I have since ended all listings and closed the shop down.

    One problem - I'm left with about £400 worth of stock, and items cost ME between £1 and £12. They will not sell individually on eBay any more, nor will they sell on sites such as Preloved, Shpock etc.

    Is there a way I can sell the lot for the cost price? Obviously wherever or however they sell I still need to declare it on my tax return, which would be easier than selling dozens of singular items.

    Any ideas would be most appreciated!

    You could always try to sell the lot at a local auction house, worth a try with a minimum price.

    List it all on Gumtree. Someone local might decide to purchase to resell on ebay.
    What are the items?
    I'll be selling some stuff myself over the next couple of weeks so might take them off your hands and split the profit if sell?

    Have you actually still got an ebay seller id? Could you resurrect it again? If so you could list as a job lot, ( take a look on ebay sellers are already doing it) you would need to itemise in the description, if not you could try Gumtree
    Can't really think of anything else that's really quick and easy to sell in bulk
    It's a great shame how p&p and ebay sellers fees are forcing a lot of sellers out of business

    I guess auction house costs would be more than the items are worth.

    I have toys, a very small amount of clothing, children's lunch bags/backpacks (only about 6 left), technology-related items ie. tablet/eReader cases, small amount of products for babies, a lot of Christmas stuff (probably 35 stockings and a load of other stuff) and party/Birthday supplies.

    I think the whole lot would be in the region of £400-£500 but am happy to add up every individual item if required.

    If you took them off my hands, the profit would be 100% yours!

    I believe auction houses go by commission. I got to my local one, it sells things mainly from house clearances and the odd Business closure. You should maybe look into it in your local area.

    Thank you. I just looked up my local auction house and it's not one I can get to unfortunately as I don't drive.

    since you had higher sales in Nov/Dec which have dropped off after Xmas, I'm going to assume these are seasonal items? could you just wait 9 months and open the shop again?

    Firstly your not looking to sell an eBay business your looking to sell stock.
    A lot of value in eBay businesses is the ratings and reputation.

    If you can't sell the stock you have for a profitable amount then no-one is going to want to buy the stock for cost price as they will have the same issue.

    Sell it as cost less 10-20% as a job lot, hit up the free methods like Gumtree and facebook groups before going anywhere else and put it down as a lesson learnt.

    If any of it is seasonal stock then expect to take a large hit (60-80%) as it's not worth the storage costs, time and effort to otherwise

    I have been in same situation my first sale on ebay on eBay was in 2006
    But been on and off as part time to full time
    Still have stock worth just under a grand and still sitting in storeroom

    I would just list them as buy it now in either in bulk or as normal with the list till it's sold option on

    I'll try selling at just below cost price on eBay but it's going to take a couple of weeks to stock-check and list everything plus cost price.

    this for sure. you could flog it all to a trader but probably well below cost price otherwise there is no incentive for someone to buy it from you. unless your cost price is dirt cheap and you got them for a bargain.
