How to tell if the Xbox 360 you want to buy is a Jasper

Just saw this on Kotaku, thought I would pass on the original website to people to have a look at. Basically if you look at the 'barcode'/label on the back of the 360 through the hole in the box, you can see the amperage. If it is 12.1amps you have a Jasper on your hands, if it is 14.2amps it is a Falcon. Should be just above the Made in China writing.

150w power supply too

Trouble is, they dont always use the new labels for the new 360's, i've seen quite a few falcons that are supposed to say 14.2 but they have the old sticker on still, (they were definatly falcons with 175w psu's inside.)

whats the difference anyway. I thought flacons 175w stopped all the 3 red light problems anyway?

Fact its cheaper is the main reason for its introduction. The fact it will run cooler is an added bonus.

From linked article ( … From linked article ( http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/10/inside-an-xbox-360-jasper-ben-heck-dissects-the-mythical-consol/ ) the console was lot # 0842X.In my thread over 1 month ago I suggested X could mark the spot ;-)http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/269403/waiting-for-jasper/

"There has been a lot of discussion about lot #'s, power supply ratings, and things of that nature being used to find Jaspers. I have found those to be unreliable. For instance, this Jasper was lot #0842X. However at Circuit City today I saw a 0843X Arcade unit, but it was 14.2 amps" - from the Engadget article, so it seems relying on the X is not failsafe, but going by the amperage is the guaranteed way to get a Jasper.

12.1A is a guaranteed Jasper. However I also guarantee some Jaspers will still display 14.2A like Falcons, along with their 175W power supply.

My reasoning for this is many early Falcons were still labeled 16.5A and came with a 203W power supply.

In conclusion just cos the amp is 14.2 does not mean it isn't a Jasper.

exactomondo!

The Arcade versions previously came with a 256mb memory unit, however with Jasper there are reports now that this is now 256mb internal memory, and no memory unit. This must be noted on the packaging, has anyone seen this yet? I'm possible gonna get one at Zavvi today, so if I do I shall let you all know the results.
