phone them up. They do it for free on a contract, although they also unlocked a PAYG handset for me for free, they just give you the code . Worth a try

Vodafone are quite good unlocking phones for free.

Have you rang them?

I haven't rung them yet as the idea just popped into my head whilst at work and the phone's at home. It was bought about 6-9m ago from Littlewoods on a PAYG basis, so I imagine they'll charge me for it. Just wondered if there was a free way of doing it as my Mum is over from US this week for 3 weeks and will need it, but can always get her a VF PAYG SIM.

give them a try, it won't hurt

Also, if you have, or know anyone with a VF contract, I'm sure they will unlock it for free too

If you have no luck unlocking it, just chuck an ASDA sim card in it for your mum to use, much cheaper and still uses the voda network

Really? ^That would make life soooooo easy.

Yep, bought my samsung steel around a year ago and switched it to asda sim within 2 weeks after I'd used my credit up with voda... much cheaper at only 4p text and 8p p/min to ANY network

Vodafone will unlock a payg phone for free if it's over 12 months old, otherwise it's 20 pounds. However if you know someone who has a Vodafone contract then they may be able to request the unlock code and get it for free, I bought a secondhand Vodafone Blackberry 8800 which was locked. I mailed Vodafone and asked for the unlock code even though the phone hadn't been given to me as part of my contract, they provided it a couple of days later.
