HPI/Stolen Vehicle checks

Looking at buying a car and wondered why the price is so varied for a vehicle check as I want to make sure it is not stolen or on finance etc. The Autotrader says it will do a check for £19.99 and then there are those £3 txt checks you can get.

Does anyone have any advice on to which is the best on price/info as I only want to make sure the car I am buying is legit?
