    HTC Desire Z - Poor battery life?

    My HTC Desire Z seems to have rubbish battery life. I can barely make 24hrs without having to recharge. It isnt flashed/modded/rooted.

    I have tried everything including:

    Installing Juice Defender;
    Installing/uninstalling ATK;
    Setting brightness to the lowest (viewable/useable) level;
    Disabling auto-sync;
    Disabling wifi/bluetooth;
    Disabling live wallpaper;
    Disabling all widgets;
    Ceasing all web browsing (including Android Market, Skype and IM).

    But still nothing... the best I got was about 22hrs.

    I actually returned my first Desire Z to e2save when I got it becuase it had a few faults - one of which I thought was related to the battery as it was just the same (if not worse).

    Does anybody have any suggestions?

    my brother htc hd7 only last half if using 3g alot.

    I've got a Desire (not a Z) and the battery life was very poor to begin with.

    However, I know get a good 3 days out of it by only having the internet/3g turned on when I need it.

    Ive go the Desire. I use wireless internet a lot. It last exactly 34 hours. The battery improves after a few recharges.. mine would not last 24 hours first week I got it

    3G can use a hell of a lot of power especially if you live in a low signal area as the phone boosts poer to the receiver,Try turning 3g off with a widget on your destop only turning it on when you need it,

    Same as above really, the battery does imporve (mine took 2 weeks)

    But the same thing ive said in all of these type threads... you cannot expect the batteries on these phones to last more than a day, realistically, its nice if they do, but you cant expect it.

    They are powerful machines with large screens.
    Suggestions:

    Stop using juice defender and use something like locale to set up location based profiles
    Turn off 3g if living in a low 3g area.. radio switching uses additional battery
    do NOT use any task killers
    Turn off always on mobile internet in the wireless and networks settings.. its not necessary, the phone works the same without it checked.

    Run some charge cycles for battery calibration...:

    Charge till full green light
    drain till switches itself off
    switch on drain till it switches off (reserve power)
    make sure you cant switch it on anymore
    charge till green (turned on)
    turn it off and chage till green
    Turn back on and repeat above steps.

    BEST TIP: actually enjoy your phone how it is meant to be used!

    is it really that much hastle to plug it in every night before you go to bed?
    If you are away from home and cant charge it, just make sure you switch it to airplane mode as it is the radio that uses the majority of the battery.

    My desire i probably get 24-30 hours out of.. maybe.
    Thats with brightness a 1/3 of the way up.. i dont need it higher
    auto syncing of mail and contacs + twitter and fb once an hour
    playing games, connecting to wifi,downloading, browsing and looking at live strea,ming stock information (all average use)

    Got mine back in November. The first week was really bad - charging it twice a day. But its not much better now!

    Do you know the name of any widgets on android market? I have the one that disables/enables b'tooth/wifi/auto-sync/brightness/screen timeouts.

    Thanks for the info... I know we cant expect too much battery life out of these things but I keep on reading articles how people get 2 or 3 days out of them whilst still doing the usual wifi/internet/games/audio/video usage.

    Its not a hassle plugging it in every night to charge but I am really trying to switch everything off at night to save on my electricity bill (my supplier wont let me switch until I clear the bill - which is going to take a bit longer than expected).

    How do I switch off 3G (is it via the typical menu then settings, etc? Do you of any widgets for it?).

    You are going to have to charge it anyway and the best time is over night, i would compromise on that front.

    as for 2g/3g try this widget:

    But wouldn't charging overnight mean overcharging (and therefore shortening the battery life)?

    Nah, that may be true of older rechargables, but with newer batteries they have protection measures factored in so this doesnt happen.

    You don't need to download anything to turn 3g off. Add a widget to your homescreen. Widget>Settings>Mobile Network lets you toggle between 2g & 3g

    Cant seem to find an option to toggle between 2G and 3G?

    Edited by: "5hooey" 9th Jan 2011

    The Desire Z should already have the 3g toggle installed,
    Hold a blank spot on the desktop then select widgets,
    then select settings
    then select mobile network,

    the perfect answer is carry a spare battery or this monster:

    Dont have a TV but do tend to charge it when I'm using the PC.

    Although bedtime is the only suitable time for me to charge conveniently I just dont like wasting things (energy/electricity bill, etc). As stupid as it sounds I'm just gonna have to set a timer to switch off the charger when it gets past 3 hours.

    I dont know how true this is, but ive heard that with the desire HD at least the battery life gets better 2 weeks in, as it 'learns' which apps to switch off ect.

    Obviously i have no idea how true this is. (my HTC desire is getting about a day atm)

    Cant find that exact one but did spot the Cameron Sino 2400mAh battery for £9.99 - think i'll go for that one (just need to sort out the Nectar points first).

    Perhaps, but I guess time will tell.

    the desire HD is worse than yours cos of the huge screen etc

    the $97 one is massive its like having 4 batteries attached! , includes worldwide delivery

    the cameron sino ones i do recommend, but do understand: because they are bigger(they include a new back plastic) your phone wont fit in a case(2400mah) so around double the capacity of your original

    original htc batteries arent too expensive on amazon

    you have a phone worth a fair few hundred pounds and your worried about the cost of a charge over night?

    Im pretty sure chargers are intelligent enough now to stop once the unit is charged.

    I got the phone free on contract, didnt pay a penny for it - i never do pay for phones. I mean, whats the point if your paying £30 a month for line rental.
