HTC HD7 vs Samsung Galaxy S vs anything else

my mom is due to upgrade her contract with O2. and I am choosing the mobile.

She would go with some other provider, but we live in the remote area and others don't cover it.

I don't know what phone should I choose. I was thinking HD7 or Galaxy S, as they look the best to me, but maybe there's something I don't know?

oh, there's tesco's contracts, right? what's the difference there?

It depends on how you want to work with your phone. Something simple and intuitive or something a little complicated and geeky.

Desire hd's are amazing but stupidly unreliable - see if they'll do you an amazing deal on a samsung wave? They're clearing them out and I can confirm they're pretty good vfm phones!

Don't say 'mom' you're not an American. Thanks.

I do not want to be a part o "i" hype. But, I will certainly ask for a price they can offer me tomorrow, but I read, that prices for iPhone contracts are priced higher? my mother won't benefit of it.

Would ignore the HD7, the panel used for the screen is supposedly pretty bad.
Check out the Omnia 7 if looking for a WP7 device, Desire/Desire HD if looking for an Android device, or obviously an iPhone for if you're after an iOS device

Desire HD vs Samsung S ???

As you can see, I keep bringing up android devices. I prefer open sourced development, even though I see the future power of windows phone, but I believe that it's far to early to be an early adopter when considering the fact, that I am going to keep that device for at least 2 years.

what would your advice be? what's better in terms of OS?

I guess, Nokia 8 would be just silly? It has the camera for video conversations(who really needs them?), but the downside is symbian. I currently have N71, which i love if only it would be more stable..

Go Desire HD or Desire imo. Got one myself. Love it. So good

Both will be getting a lot of backing in the XDA community, although with the Galaxy S having hardware with so much in common with the Nexus S, it is likely to gain Gingerbread ROMs faster than the Desire HD.

I wouldn't worry about the future of WP7, Microsoft are clear that they are serious about the OS as a whole, and I can guarantee that they will be rolling out fairly major updates atleast twice a year in an attempt to play catch-up with Android and iOS

You're safe if you go for either the Desire HD or the Galaxy S though, both great devices that aren't going to be forgotten by the community for a while.

Just a thing to note. The HTC Desire HD is massive and weighs a fair bit. I only bring this up while it's fine by me but at the weekend my mother had a play and she couldn't get on with it with her small hands.

    WAVE. bada is impressive too...

assuming, the data on the website is correct, HTC Desire HD is much better option, than Samsung Galaxy S.

I'm reading O2 forums and they say, that Desire HD will not be sold by O2. you can buy it through carphone warehouse though. forum.o2.co.uk/vie…157

on the other hand : forum.o2.co.uk/vie…135 waynekerr011's post says it has started selling them. It's rather random post, and I found no info about it on O2 website(despite the forum), so I'm rather confused. the phonecall will solve it all. I hope.

if they do, I go all the way with HTC HD, without looking at anything else.

But tell me this, what's the catch with N8 ? specs are pretty damn good, the only downside I see is Symbian(even though its ^3, so probably better than S60 )?

Why does the lower class GPRS and EDGE bother you?

It seems LG's optimus 2x is just round the corner, so unless the other manufactures don't want to loose market share there next generation phones might be with us earlier than the April time they were expected. So you may want to wait and look into it before you sign up for another 18/24 months.

The N8 is a dead-end phone, it'll stop being supported by Nokia in the near future, the OS is already dead, and it's just a horrible phone to use

if you can get cheaper contrat than iphone 4,htc desire hd is the idea phone to upgrade.have a high market value.

GPRS and EDGE bother's me because I would be using the phone as navigation device a lot.

I was thinking the same thing about waiting but the thing is that the current contract will run out, and then I will get the same deals as the firstimers (new clients). When you are renewing your contract you get some discounts.

Not sure what GPRS and EDGE have to do with navigation. This is done by the GPS chip in the phone and even if you are using the network assistance it uses such a tiny amount of data that is wont make any difference.

As for upgades being better value than new deals this is quite rare, new customers tend to get the best deals.

Well, I was offered 300 min+ free O2 calls+ 500MB+WiFi(btopenzone, and "the cloud")+free text+ galaxy S/HD7. if I would be a newcomer and knew no O2 staff to give me 30%discount, I'd have to pay at least 30quid for this deal.

Btw, thanks for the comment on GPRS and EDGE, I've googled it and even though it's still difficult for me to understand it fully, I realise, that I probably do not really need it.

    It's a) so much cheaper
    b) got the best smartphone screen sub iPhone 4/desire hd imo
    c) bada is really easy to use
    d) it looks gorgeous too

All this is coming from someone who uses/owns a 3GS - my sister recently got the wave and in seriously considering taking the plunge myself - I have like £150 of apps though

I would not go for the wave. While the hardware is impressive, Samsung does not have the weight to pull of its own proprietary OS, especially considering its own Android Galaxy line is much more successful. Bada will never have the support or apps that iOS, Android, WP7 or even Symbian have. If you want the screen, go for the Galaxy S/Nexus S. (And as a Desire HD owner, i have to say that size withstanding, the Samsung SAMOLED and iphone 4 screens are much nicer. I even kinda prefer the standard AMOLED on the Desire, but otherwise the Desire HD is awesome).

The main point is how cheap it is...

when you are signing a contract, you do not really care about the retail price of the phone(if you have no intentions of selling it), as it comes "free".

for now I have decided, that it's better to save money and go with simplicity contract for my mum. and I will hope, that my Nokia E71 won't fail me again, at least for a year.
