HTC Supersonic - 4.3in Android 4G Superphone (Pics inside)

Still happy with my HTC Desire order :).

Gonna be a while till this even hits the U.K shores - looking more like a 4G only type of deal for Sprint.

After owning a HD2 - altho i loved the big screen.. It did become a little bit "to big" at times.. Think 4inch would remove that rather than 4.3..

    Plus no AMOLED screen..

Differences with HTC Desire is essentially

    - 4.3 Screen (Bigger) - but no AMOLED
    - 8mp Camera with dual LED flash

Otherwise - same phone.. Will devide some im sure

can't wait till this baby drops in my lap.... unless X10 gets a snappy updade!

Very nice. Shame there's no QWERTY keyboard, though. I wouldn't buy a phone without one.

Looks like it solves all the problems I had with the HD2 and then some. Think I'll forget the Desire and get the Legend whilst i wait for this.

This also looks miles better than the Desire - you missed that OP.

Think that is very much down to personal preference.

I owned a HTC HD2 (Recently sold due to no Windows 7 Mobile upgrade) – while i loved it and thought the look was fantastic – i don’t think it suits Android and HTC Sense.

HD2 always felt like a business device – Even Windows Mobile with HTC Sense is designed more in that fashion. Android with HTC Sense has an overall more consumer feel to it – aiming far more for the same demographic as the iPhone.

4.3 inch screen is fantastic – especially when browsing the internet or emailing.. So while you’re sat on ya couch, or at your office at work.. You really appreciate the extra screen space.. However, if ya out and about in town.. In the pub knocking back a few or just want to use the phone for a quick text or phone call.. The size does become a little over baring at times.

I think what this is sorely lacking is an AMOLED display – and from the coverage shots next to the HTC Desire – this is painfully obvious. I think the 8mp will be pointless, as it’s commonly known that once you start going over 5mp.. The performance increases are miniscule, often being the case that a good 5mp camera phone is much better than a 10mp one.

For now – i think the HTC Desire is the much better choice. Until HTC release a 4inch Android phone with an AMOLED.

Also it's incredibley doubtful you'll see this phone here before the Christmas season, as sprint release is summer this year. Plus this isn't a GSM phone *yet*

Very well summed up. I looked at the Toshiba TG01 ages ago and it seemed nice, but the sheer size of the thing was huge! I would not of wanted to carry it in my pocket!

The Desire looks acceptable size, but yet to try one. Furthermore, although there is a correspondence, I don't care too much about screen size, but screen resolution. As you view exactly the same for example a 1366x768 on a netbooks 9inch as you do to a 1366x768 on a laptops 15inch. Yes the size of it might look different, but on all these phones there is a zoom function etc.

But the Desire still looks top notch for me, I want one! Even went into T-Mobile yesterday to have a word with the guy in regards to them.

    Definitely mate

Oh god - Toshiba TG01.. I remember seeing that in an Orange shop, absolute abomination of a phone lol. Only reason i think HD2 isn't in that same category, is the screen edges meet very close to the edge of the casing. So while it's a huge screen - they tried to keep everything else slight.

Yeah very excited about the HTC Desire aswell, can't wait till mine arrives Friday / Saturday. I think 3.7 inch may be the sweet spot for me, although going from the HD2.. I think the 4 inch may be more in the realm of my "Perfect phone".. Have to see when it comes.

The CTIA coverage does make me smile though - everyone showing off Android phones.. Android is pretty much the only big story coming out of CTIA from all manufactures at the moment lol.

Yeah the TG01 was huge, very thin, but just huge, half the size of my netbook I'm sure!

Well I spoke to the guy at my T-Mobile shop and he told me to ring him on Friday and he can put my name on one (bad thing to say to me!) and said he could see what we could do in regards to my contract...so there is some hope.
Although I don't think he took into consideration I'm on half price line rental for life. But he did say for new contracts on 18months you get unlimited texts, unlimited internet and 900mins for £30pm and the HTC Desire for free, which I thought was a good deal anyway. But I am never giving up my half price line rental for life!

Damn that does seem like a good deal mate..

I reckon you may be swayed if you popped in friday and got the phone in ya hands

£540 for lifetime of contract - so sure £140 more.. But that is allot of minutes on top of unlimited texts and internet.

I reckon you should consider trying to see if he'll whack an additional booster on that for free - which i dont think would be to hard.

    900 Minutes
    Unlimited Texts
    Unlimited Internet
    Unlimited Landline booster

Now that would be a stonking plan for £30/pm

T-Mobile always give better prices than other networks for new connections, their retentions are known to be a bit crap.. But what i can't believe is how cheap these deals are on HTC Desire direct from T-Mobile - seems insane.. Never seen them beat MPD before.

I have a feeling the booster was the texts, so normally you'd probably only get like 400-500 texts. But I could be wrong. But agreed I think if I get the phone in my hands I'll be very tempted. :whistling:

Nope it has neither of those. I dont know any phones that have hdmi out yet. And I have never used a front facing camera since they were introduced by 3 with their video calling.

thats if they make it a GSM phone though...if not you will have to wait until 4G gets introduced widely.

Ah well - looks like you may have to do a little haggling while in store :).

Still a great deal for £30/pm even without the landline booster.

Front facing cameras lol - been around for donkeys years but nobody ever uses them.. Good reason to - video calls cost a fortune.. Nobody ever has the credit to use them.. Plus i've done video calls before, it's just a pain in the ****.. You've got to hold the phone infront of ya head rather than the natural position you hold it when texting, otherwise all you're showing off is ya chin lol.

Sure applications are gonna use them allot more over data now - but i still can't see it taking off yet.. Purely due to having to hold a phone directly infront of your face..

As for HDMI out - i can appreciate people may want to hook it upto their TV to show pictures / video.. But i always just sync photos / video from my phone to my PC, which my media centre automatically picks up.. Which i can then view on my TV - through XBMC Live and it's nice UI..

You're one of the rare few then mate

Also don't hold out hope for this phone.. Personally - i can't see it ever hitting the U.K.. Very much a U.S / Sprint / 4G exclusive.. With us more likely getting an updated version of the Desire in 12-14 months which a 4inch display and HDMI out.

Reason i think that is Europe - in particular the U.K has always been a testing ground before U.S launch. Due to the competitive nature of the U.K market, it's good to release here first. It's one of the rare markets we get stuff first, the U.S get it 6 months later :).

Where instead the U.S has gotten from HTC Evo first - plus the nexus one (and i can imagine there is some exclusive deal going on - where they won't be releasing the Desire there for a good few months if ever). So i'd imagine they've only released this to have their own branded flagship Android device in the market.
