HUKD Official Wedding Advice & Deals

I was amazed to see that there was no Wedding thread (that I could find anyway!) on HUKD, so I thought that I would start one.

Basically, if anyone has any great little hints or tips regarding anything to do with weddings put them in here! Any little money saving ideas or bargains that they know of.

We're getting married in September and haven't planned much yet, so any help would be much appreciated!

Get married in Florida - it only cost $100 for a licence and $200 for minister and notary and you can get married an hour after you land

Yes i am also getting married in july, need to purchase a suit with a limited budget of only £200, just looking for a smart and fashionable suit like the ones at Zara and River Island etc.

any recommendation on Brands, Store, Style/Fitting, Colour, Discount Offers, will be appreciated!

thanks

When it comes to decorating cakes you could buy ready iced ones as mentioned above and get whoever does your flowers to make a small spray to put on the cake/s. Looks very coordinated with your bouquets and doesn't cost much. Also enter competitions at bridal fayres etc. I won a lovely tiara! Enjoy your preparations!

Favours, Ribbons & Balloons can be sort cheap on eBay, but even cheaper if you go to card warehouses (usually in industrial estates).

If there are any preofessional cake makers in your family get them to make your cake. My auntie made me a fantastic masquerade one! Even used the top layer for a christening cake!

Im getting married in August, and we are pretty much prepared!

Most of the stuff came from eBay: Ballons, ribbons, favour bags, wedding dress, bridesmaids dresses, flower girl...you get the picture!

Got friends to make the cake.
My dad already owns classic cars so has friends with classic cars, so we have a choice on what we could have!
I do my own disco, so thats the entertainment sorted! Friends at work have their own band, so thats more entertainment...
Honeymoon all paid for (Going to Centreparcs in Sherwood Forest)

Suit hire, half paid for and expensive!

All we have left to do really is the food. I have a costco card, so that should come in handy! Lots of friends have offered to help too...

Not really any tips here, but I thought I'd contribute!

Spider1986 on here is a wedding photographer, and with the recent news of spicer hallfield going bust. it is best to get your photographer to order the album you want now as we just don't know which companies are going to be here tomorrow.
spicer hallfield was one of the best wedding album companies in the UK and did very nice albums.

I got married in November, and the best advice was from a wedding forum www.confetti.co.uk

We baked and iced our own cake, it was a gorgeous 3 tier fruit cake, better than any shop cake. We got our invitations from studio 24 and printed out personalised inserts for them.

We had fantastic wedding favours, we got sticks of rock made with our names running through the middle, only about £110 including delivery for 200 sticks!

The best advice I myself could give is don't let worries about the day spoil the run up to it. We had a fantastic day, hubby was too nervous to give a speech so rather than put him through the hell of speaking we just said no, he wasn't doing one. Same for the first dance together. Stuff tradition, it was our day and there was no point in parts of it being more stressful than they had to be.

It was the best day of my life, and although it was only a few months ago I have never once regretted it. Neither of us have ever been so happy, it's great to be married!

I got the holiday Inn deal, getting Married 31st july 2010... so trying to do as much as we can on our own... there is not much on here regarding weddings and the MSE website is a nightmare to read through sometimes.

I think we are just going to get our cake from M&S and decorate it ourselves...

Will keep checking back here to see any ideas!

I've booked with the Holiday inn at the Glasgow Airport, every holiday inn seems to have a different deal and not all of them are doing it,

For the Basic £1000 we get:
Red Carpet on Arrival
Informal Host
Civil Ceremony Room Hire
Cake Stand and Knife
Sparkling Wine Reception
Buffet for 100 Guests
Evening reception Room Hire
Evening Reception DJ and Entertainment until 1am
Accomodation for Bride and Groom
please note they make You arrange Your own civil ceremony via Your local Registry office who may charge an extra for this.

for an extra £500 we get the Diamond pacage, you get your flowers, ballons, seating plan and place cards, sparkling wine reception, floating candles on tables, champagne in room, luxury Honeymoon suite, child's entertainer, canapes on arrival, disposable camera's on tables, guest signature & Well wisher book, coloured linen to compliment brides scheme.

Only thing we need to pay for is the meals, which is about £19-£20 per head, we're not having many for during the day and the evening buffet is included in the original price.

We also go to pick any day on the week we wanted, when reading the original post some people could only have their wedding on a day during the week so we've been lucky and were able to book a Saturday. Can't hurt to enquire with your local Holiday inn, that's all we did and the next thing we know it's booked lol

Also spotted, cake/favour boxes in poundland, my local store are going ones shaped like groom's tux and bride's wedding dress, 10 pack for £1.

I never had time to buy them but heading in this week to grab a few as they actually look really good!

Good luck, the girl who is organising our wedding is called Kirsty, she's roughly about my age 20 something and she is really nice. She will try and get you in to view the place when there is a wedding on so you can see what your getting for the pacages that they have, only thing is parking is a bit of a night mare, we ended up parking across from the terminal building the first time we went and it cost us a fortune, we didn't know you could park in the hotel (Though car park is tiny).

I managed to pick up my bridesmaids dresses in a charity shop paid £13, immaculate condition - Jasper Conran design this season (saw £109 each in Debenhams today). Never been in charity shops before! Dress and suit (both brand new) under £15 each. Learnt how to hand tie my bouquet, cake topper and fascinator from the internet (flowers £8 supermarket = double that as I've had a trial run). Pre-iced cakes
Getting married 4 weeks today in Gretna, total spend so far (including registrars fees/Gretna) £450!

Hope this helps and good luck to everyone getting wed!!!:friends:
