Hi - I am thinking of buying a Freesat box - I don't need a PVR because I have a DVD recorder with HD. Will I be able to hook up a Freesat box in such a way that I can record content onto my DVD recorder? - Dumb question I know but I am awfully thick!

Thanks

Probably.
I mean you can probably record.
Can't see why not, it has 2 scarts, I believe.
Not probably you're thick.
I fancy one myself.

You should be able to record but the DVD recorder probably wont sync with the EPG on the freesat box, i.e. you'll have to manually set the DVD recorder to record and manually set the Freesat box to come on at the same time, no series link or anything like that.

Personally I'd swallow the extra for the PVR, you'll soon get annoyed having to set two timers for every program you want to record, I have a Humax Freeview PVR and it's worth every penny.

Thanks - of course - I had a a cable for Sky that went into the back of the dvd recorder and then had an infrared thingy on the end to stick near the sky box and for timer recordings that would sort of manually tell the sky box which channel to set via that lead and the infrared transmeitter (clever eh?) - wonder if it would work with the freesat box??

Aye.
I had one.
Worth a try.

It's called the Sony G-Link system - from what I've read it should be ok for all external receivers - anyone know if this is true?

Just dug mine out.
It's called "Phantom Bluedelta" or the other way round.
Got it from a pc fair and knowing me, it won't have cost a lot.
Possibly £20

thanks for the info

I record from my Foxsat HD to a Phillips DVD/HD recorder. No Problem!
