Perhaps you have some old sim cards kicking around with some credit on them? Maybe you changed network, or have some old free sims with credit....... or you just bought a PAYG phone ......had to buy a top up, but have a contract?

You can send a text to donate £5 from your credit....and even gift aid it. Have a look : dec.org.uk/don…ow/

thats quite good, should be able to pay in lesser amounts though as useless if have under a fiver.

OP, whilst well intentioned, doesn't really offer a deal

This post should be moved to Misc...................

Let's hope we get some more aid to those poor people. Every donation, no matter how small, will help.

Indeed.... I guess it's down to processing costs, but it's a shame as tmobile for instance gave away £5 of credit (you need some to send the text too)

Some people only look at deals, I know I do. Surely in this case it can stay here, to reach as many people as possible?

how about donating money to uk based charities for peopel that are homeless etc after the floods?

Thanks for this, couldn't care less whether the thread is allowed or not right now!! Thanks for posting, red cross are also doing a donation page too. Desperate times, they really need the aid getting out there

Glad its oxfam, dont trust many others

Am I the only one who thinks my £10 will make NO difference..? As sad as I am for these poor people, these things happen for a reason and there are countries out there who could spend BILLIONS on these people and their country and still not improve things. Natural disasters are just that.....natural. I don't give to African charities for the simailar reasons. Most of these donations be it money or aid rarely get thru and is generally eaten up by fees charged by the Charity companies that run them or the corrupt Govts in those countries. Charity begins at home I'm afraid....

    Cue a mountain of abuse......

Surely you're not equating what has happened in Haiti to what has happened here? I'm not denying that there are people in need in this country, but I don't think there is anyone here without water.

There are loads of good causes, this is something which is a letdown on hotukdeals - charity not allowed. It should be tough through all recognised sites

No one is denying uk based charities should be given to, but the sheer scale of the atrocity that has happened here requires URGENT HELP.
Please dont be little the plight of others who have less than you, or nothing at all, by making snide comments, that do nothing to further help peopl desperately in need of HELP!
A major earthquake struck Haiti on 12 January just ten miles from the capital city of Port-au-Prince.
Why the hell it has took to the 19th of jan, to start getting REAL aid through is disgusting!!

There are people living rough all over the UK - just kids some of them. Plus thousands of families living in near poverty with very little help. I know thisa won't be popular with a lot of people but lets put our own country in order first.

because they are based in a 3rd world country. and the aid takes time to gather and transport ?

fantastic post. hopefully they can get the roads cleared and get these to areas which really need help

The full quote is, 'Charity Begins at Home, but Does Not End There'. It's amazing how many people choose to corrupt the intention of the quotation to suit their own agendas.

still shouldnt be made an exception? my local scout hut is going to get demolished wanan help us?

Yes I agree, sorry but charity does begin at home. People are blind to what is happening on their doorstep especially wealthy people

Bottom line on this one, is donate if you wanna, if you feel otherwise, then DONT!
But dont preach to others who choose to help their fellow human beings!

I may not agree with everything you have said but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Personally I would prefer people donate to the DEC appeal if they feel the need to throw their money into the pot - if you've ever seen the swanky headquarters Oxfam have you will realise just how much of the money they collect goes on administration!!!
