I AM AN IDIOT - Ebay advice please!

I have just bid on something which I know I will win - without it occurring to me that the auction doesn't end until tomorrow night, when I will be away on holiday for a fortnight. I've every intention of paying for it, and am not in a rush, but what happens if the seller gets narky and complains I'm a non-payer? I've already emailed them and explained the situation, and asked that they either end the auction early (and I will pay my maximum bid) or be aware that I won't be near a PC to pay for it for a fortnight... Here's hoping he's a nice person.

mobile phone? internet cafe? get someone else (a family member) to log on and pay...

See if he will make a new 'buy it now' for the item, which you can then buy and pay for today.
Otherwise, get a friend to pay for it and you then pay them when you get back.

can you send a chq instead of paypal if you are sure you will win - how are you so sure - just so you don't get in a pickle ?

I have the cheapest crappiest PAYG phone, so no - that's not an option. Hubby would be well narked if I toddled off to an interent cafe leaving him with three small children on holiday - plus IT's MY HOLIDAY!!! If I go near a PC I will combust. I need to pay with my ebay coupon before it expires, so can't send a cheque. Am currently considering trustworthy friends to whom I can give access to ebay and paypal. They are few...

Either get someone else to pay for it or just see what they say. They may … Either get someone else to pay for it or just see what they say. They may wait or may think you are a potential non payer, as there are so many and may cancel your bid anyhow.

Fab, hope so. It's only a £5 gift voucher, and I've bid £5 to use up my ebay voucher - so he's quids in if he waits, and I'm chuffed if he waits or cancels. There's plenty on there, so can bid for another one when I get back. I'm so used to using Buy It Now, it didn't occur to me!!

you can cancel the bid yourself if you want

Erm, really? On what grounds, and how?

bid retraction form - see the help link. Use the grounds of 'entered wrong amount / unable to contact seller'

But I didn't enter the wrong amount... and though I've sent the seller two messages, I don't know how long to wait for a response.

OK, so I've retracted the bid. Didn't know I could do that - what happens if the seller disputes this and reinstates my bid while I'm away? I won't even know about it!

Goodo. I only use BIN anyway, which is why I was thrown this time. Just want to use this sodding voucher up!
