I am not enjoying today, because

I have just been told that my branch is closing.....today!!.....they have offered me a position an hour away for less money, starting Monday.
What is particularly galling is that the reason our branch is closing is because they own the building, so even though we have, and are, doing more than the other two branches, they can sell this branch (or rent it out) where as they rent the other branches and therefore cannot sell them as an asset.
You just know that our competitors will just see it as we failed and that is why we closed, not, actually they were doing ok, but for short term gain they were the easiest and most profitable option to close.
Anyone know of a HUKD style forum for job hunters?

thanks guys...just ringing our vendors, and the best comment is... (verbatim) 'how the f*** do they expect to sell it in this market place?'
Taking the other job is what I will do...but the bitter taste is just something I could do without....problem is I have put 10 years into getting where I am, there are no estate agency jobs around....so what the hell do I do?, start over again at 40!

Yes....the owner is very switched on to employment law, and will do it by the book, the branch I am going to is failing big time, I bet I get there and then get taken down some failure to hit targets disciplinary route and then out....don't need a crystal ball for that one:x

Harsh. You must be thoroughly peed off. I suggest you take a dump on your desk before you leave - you'll find the relief sweeter, unless of course you are in an open plan office, in which case I would advise against it.

Sorry to hear that. Which agent do you work for? what area?

Thanks...made me beam from ear to ear:-D:-D

Sorry to hear this, the housing the housing market has dipped though, but I am sure it will pick up again soon.
If you find it difficult, in the interim, you could try signing on to a job agency, there are normally good at getting work, and you never know where you might end up!
Also, try ringing ACAS to get some advices (08457 47 47 47) they are very helpful

Sorry, dont know of any job hunting sites (been with my company for more years than i care to remember!) but just wanted to say im sorry to hear that

There isn't a minimum notice for a change of venue - he isn't being fired or made redundant. If an employment contract includes a mobility clause they can send you pretty much where they like. The illegal part here is lowering your pay - they can't do this without your consent. No consent - no change in pay. If they fire you on that the employer is in breach of a duty to have mutual respect and confidence, and an ET1 can be filed (speak to your local CAB if you need help with that).

dont monster.co.uk still do jobs. just go and look in local recruitment centres

Hi, Surprised they can do this to you. Would have thought that this comes under constructive dismissal in that they are changing your contract of employment. They should offer you redundancy for the 10 years service.

All the best "burger kings" are closing down :P
    Only joking mate.

Had this for the past 8 years. Been moved around to about 5 places..Some bad..some good

Good luck with whichever path you take

Less pay as a third of my earnings come from branch performance, therefore my branch £200k, branch going to has no pipline and historically does £150 - £170 although this year way down!!! so further travel and less earnings!

A-S: I'm so sorry to hear your bad news: I think that you've been expecting something miserable - reading between the lines. :friends: xxxxx
How about renting the building from them and settting up on your own?

    Thanks...
couldn't afford the £15k pa rent, and I have a low attitude to risk, working for myself has never appealed, however, I had put a business plan together a few months ago, but now is not the time to become an estate agent!

Sassie I would give you a job, but I would probably end up making you the boss...it would be easier to do as you say;-)

If you are going to start up on your own, start up in a small way, only working at nights and weekends and build the buisness up slowly.
Stay with your present employers while you are doing this and perhaps use their facilities!
You never know...this could turn out to be a good thing. x

Ah - you could try argueing it's de facto paycut, but I wouldn't be too hopeful on that. The travel is well within their rights if you signed a contract containing a mobility clause.
