I have a Wireless 3G card related question (exciting!)

I left a job several months ago and "found" i still had in my posession an Orange Business Everywhere Sierra Wireless Aircard 850.

Not it has an IMEI number, like a phone, so does this mean, as the company have prob written this off lost or stolen, the card is useless?

Please help IT/Mobile Comms literate people

    Jesus wept, Should say "Now, it has an IMEI number . . . . " i'm a dribbling idiot today . . . .

I wouldn't have thought they'd have noticed and reported it. Should be fine. Try it and see.

Its company policy to report any missing mobile comms devices (as i still have their sim card too ) Can they be locked via the IMEI number being identified?

OOoh...I work with 3G all the time!!! Supplied by Vodafone tho....

As far as I know, its only the SIM that gets cancelled. I sure there would be a way of unlocking the card so you can use any SIM in it...give it a go!

If they've reported the stuff missing then it probably won't work. Try it.

chances are its been blocked - although, they arent that expensive these days. do you have the BEW software as well?

did you not sign a leavers form when you left the company?
i know the mobile lady in our company keeps tabs on everyones phone and 3g card for the UK, ive heard her chasing people up on the phone for the 3g cards and threatening to cancel.
i once left a company and "found" a sim card, i think they cancelled it after 3 months.

also, i think that particular 3g card comes free with a contract now anyway? do you still have the sim in there?

Yep, it was a slightly acrimonious parting of ways (i was wronged and they didn't bother signing the leavers inventory sheet thing) hence no chase up

    Not to worry tho!

I could find out tomorrow at work if IMEI's are traceable? I'll call Vodafone and ask them! I have my contacts....:whistling:

well, i didnt want to give too much away too quickly

If the cards has an IMEI then it can be blocked just like any mobile phone. I would hammer it to death with torrents until it's blocked.

I have spoken to my contact....

When the Mobile Equipment starts up, it obtains the IMSI from the SIM … When the Mobile Equipment starts up, it obtains the IMSI from the SIM card, and passes this to the mobile operator requesting access and authentication. The Mobile Equipment may have to pass a PIN to the SIM card before the SIM card will reveal this information. The operator network searches its database for the incoming IMSI and its associated Ki. The operator network then generates a Random Number (RAND) and signs it with the Ki associated with the IMSI (and stored on the SIM card), computing another number known as Signed Response (SRES1). The operator network then sends the RAND to the Mobile Equipment, which passes it to the SIM card. The SIM card signs it with its Ki, producing SRES2 which it gives to the Mobile Equipment along with encryption key Kc. The Mobile Equipment passes SRES2 on to the operator network. The operator network then compares its computed SRES1 with the computed SRES2 that the Mobile Equipment returned (IMEI). If the two numbers match the SIM is authenticated and the Mobile Equipment (IMEI) is granted access to the operator's network. Kc is used to encrypt all further communications between the Mobile Equipment and the network

Basically, it won't work here in the UK.

    Hope this helps!
