Every time you give a present in a gift bag, attach the receipt for the gift bag inside. This means, once the recipient has removed their present(s) they can claim the cost of the gift bag back by returning to the shop it was purchased from. I think this idea could catch on

How many gift bags do you receive for every year ? You look at the bag and think.."oh that's nice", you take out your gifts and then what do you do with the lively bag ?... reuse it maybe, by sending it to someone else.. but if it's in the best condition it can be in, what's stopping you from returning it ?

Wow, can see you put a lot of thought into this

But what's wrong with re using, you don't have to go out and buy another gift bag?

There's nothing at all wrong with reusing it... but now you have more choices... Bin it ? reuse it ? or return for a refund ?

Do you ask them to give you the money back too?

Only works if originally purchased with cash and not card - they normally like to put the money back on to the card used to purchase.

very true... A lesson to be learnt

Include the receipt for the gift as well so that the recipient can return it and get something they actually want

Why not just re use them? I've even used old paper shopping bags from Bravissimo, just stick things over the branding like old bits of wrapping paper that aren't big enough to wrap a present. I don't think I've bought a gift bag for about 10 years and even thrn they were hardly expensive ones

Sounds a great idea you could try getting in store credit on used toilet paper too

Ok ok ok... I gather it's not gonna catch on then

My time is worth more than the cost of the returned gift bag.

Gift bags are cheap these days,I buy a few at a time from next when I pop in as they are 4 for 3. The card factory is very cheap as well I have a drawer full of bags for gifts as I think they are nicer than paper alone.

I certainly wouldn't be attaching a receipt so recipient could get a refund and I definitely wouldn't recycle paper carrier bags but each to their own. If I'm buying a gift for someone whether cheap or slightly more expensive I always try and make an effort with wrapping!

I have received gift bags and I just keep and recycle them if they are not damaged.

These days for birthdays I always make a nice cake and have it in a nice box,I find people appreciate that more than a gift they don't want or need

This is where you're going wrong, why not stick a tesco receipt to the cake to enable the recipient to claim back the cake ingredients?
