I know it goes on, but I just didn't believe my eyes

Yesterday my 6yr old boy lost his bike. The story was he put it back in the garage after using it. His best friend then decided to help himself to it, took it to our local park (just across the road from us), and left it there, it then disappeared.

Once we realised the bike had been stolen we started asking the neighbours if they had seen anything, one neighbour reported the local scumbag family (very renowned) little 7yr old boy had been about the estate earlier that day.

I immediately got in my car and drove to their estate (real scary part of the town). I got out my car up the street, and walked towards their house. As I came close I heard voices in the back garden, and looked over the low fence to see them, there with my boys very distinctive bright yellow bike.

I knocked on the door, and asked for my boys bike back the kid that answered immediately got his scaly mum.

She took me through to the back yard, where the bike had disappeared and all 5 kids were denying all knowledge of it. I then threatened getting the police down to talk it through with them and suddenly the bike reappeared (shoved down the back of the shed), but in the 2 hours they had it they had completely dismantled it (down to the ball bearings) and chopped the parts onto other bikes in the yard

After some discussions, and an irate mum that was looking at being done for possesion of stolen goods. I agreed that I would not press charges if I got a working bike back. All 5 kids immediately sprung into action to chop shop a new bike together for my boy.

After realising they didn't have enough parts, the dad (that had returned by this time) agreed to compensate me for a new bike.

I would not have believed it. I came away with cash for a new bike, and advised the police that turned up that I would not be pressing charges.

My boy seems quite happy with the outcome too :-)

I'd be making sure I had an awesome CCTV and alarm system for my house... hate scum like that...
Hope they don't cause you any more hassle... fingers crossed.

Blimey, you are very brave...... and lucky. I would not even consider asking some of the 'local yocals' round here for fear of a punch on the face!!!!

Yeah, they used to live on my estate (the 15% of housing association houses) but they got evicted after 4 of the 5 boys received ASBO's. So they pay a visit now and again.

I have a good security system, but at least if anything happens I know where to go. As it was I'm quite a heavy built bloke and have a deepish voice so I think I might have scared them.

Good job FC, I have read about half way through and now will get back to reading the last paragraph

Well maybe you better lock his new bike up from now on so his friends dont come and borrow it and leave it in the park anymore.

I have to admit, I'm a big softy, but the thought didn't enter my mind until I left with the cash in my hand. Then when I got home I realised that I would have been outnumbered by 5 to 1. It only would have taken one of them to pull a knife....ho hum.

Sorry its so long fella, but it was quite an ordeal

In those situations, best thing to do is pull out a bigger knife. You don't even have to use it. Just the size should put them off

The deal is that if anyone is seen on his bike except my boy, we will take it off him. He needs to learn responsibility for his own possessions.

Lol joking obviously, but keep the police on speed dial. Then when they start threatening you, you push that little button fast as you can. Then put it on loudspeaker. Should do the trick :-D

Great minds think alike  But seriously in those situations make sure someone knows where you're going, or, take someone with you maybe just to sit in the car so atleast you have a witness in case something goes down.

I think a certain family a few door's away from me are thieve's.

They have just returned from an all-inclusive 2 week holiday in Spain, courtesy of the tax payer.

The kid's were messing about on my drive earlier, so i told them to move on.

One of them said let's go around the back, i asked them what they wanted and they just moved on.

Then i went to the PO with my brother and when we got back.

I was tidying my front garden and a neighbour came over to me and asked if i had seen anybody messing about on her property yesterday.

I never moved much yesterday after my big night out on saturday, so i didn't notice much going on outside.

She has had a bracelet and watch stolen from her house whilst she was upstair's, she left her side gate open for a moment.

She is quite wealthy, so i bet they are worth a few quid.

This was my problem, I couldn't go in accusing them of pinching it until I had evidence. It was just a stroke of luck that I spotted it as I was walking up the street

I know, it is hard to point the finger but it seems to point at their house quite a lot.

Another neighbour think's they are thieve's too.
