I really want a pc that will play call of duty 4. Im currently a student and dont want to spend more than £350.
I have found one on the net for £333 heres the specs

Intel core 2 duo E8400 6.0GHZ 1333MHZ 6MB CACHE
MOTHERBOARD = ASROCK
MEMORY = 4GB DDR2 667 MEMORY MODULE
HARD DISC DRIVE = 500GB 16MB CACHE SATA HARD DRIVE
GRAPHICS CARD = NVIDIA 8600GT 512MB PCI-E + VGA + DVI + TV OUT
OPTICAL DRIVE = 20X DUAL LAYER LIGHTSCRIBE DVDRW

So is this computer any good or not?
Thanks for any answers given.

it dont come with a monitor but i already have that lol.

Graphics card is too weak for a gaming computer in my opinion, especially COD4. Look for at least a 8800GT

iv tried looking for a gaming pc with a 8800gt but they all exceed my price of £350

cut back on the ram to save some cash. 4GB in a 32bit operating system is wasted. 2GB would be fine

Its a decent specification but I would suggest waiting until at least mid July as Intel are meant to be having a price drop and by then graphics cards would have gone down in price also due to the new series card being so much faster and currently similarly priced.

Put one together yourself, that'll save you a fair bit.

SO OK it's Pentium dual core but they are still very good chips when overclocked, which is why i have included the freezer 7 pro here.

As suggested i would wait for the price cuts in July.

no OS and smaller hdd?

Didn't see an OS in the OP and yes also a smaller hdd.

500gb would make it about £358

i thnik its a good deal, the 8600GT will let you play most games, albiet not at super high resolutions. This fascination with 8800Gt is a bit over the top. If you cant make your own PC this is a good deal. If you can, then make it yourself, you will have a few bob, and once you can afford a better GFX, you can install it urself. You never know, maybe next week they take out a game, which makes the 8800 wet itself. Then you'll be over your budget, eating pot noodles to make up for it, and people will be suggesting 9800GTX2's then.

Technology wll get outdated moment you buy it. You have a budget, stick to it. The lure and temptation is always there. I know I just built my PC and the temptation to go for a 8600GT (i couldnt even afford that, forget 8800GT).
Your Call!!

PS. Yes 8800Gt is king, but this guy has a budget!!

Yes, he has a budget, but a gaming machine should be fit for purpose. Example: I am buying a sports car for weekend track days, but I can only afford a 100hp engine, pointless.

Spending a little bit more, or searching for another deal which has a configuration more suited to gaming if totally worth it in my opinion.

Anywhere that claims an Intel core 2 duo E8400 is 6.0GHZ shouldn't be trusted. Its a 3GHz CPU, not 6GHz, very misleading.

Agreed, but there is no point in sacrificing CPU at the moment. Plus I get that the 8800Gt is a good card, but recently any questions about GFX cards are answered by "8800GT". I think the 4870 or even the 9800GTx2 do a great job. Plus, I dont know the definition of a gaming machine. If I had £350 quid to spend, I would buy whatever I could in it, and that would be my gaming machine. Everything would run on medium, but still it would be Ok for gaming. I dont see the logic behind a GAMING maching being anything with a 8800GT in it!!

Maybe thats just me. I dont play Crysis so maybe I dont get it

The 4870 has only been out for four days (and the 4850 is nearer 8800GT prices) and the 9800GT isn't out at all yet so any advanced benchmarks you've seen aren't that helpful.

Sorry I meant the 9800GX2, my bad!!

Urm, it's more expensive, with a far slower CPU, half as much RAM, half as much disk space, and it'd need another £60 for an OS. Its only redeeming virtue is that it has a faster graphics card, but then, an 8800GT to add to his original quote would work out the same as the OS would for yours. A good effort, and you're a good guy, but that really is rotten advice, I'm sorry to say.
