Hate to be a downer, but £400 is really pushing it. If you don't mind the turbocache/hypermemory graphics cards the dell outlet might be your best bet. I think all the laptops there come with at least a 1 year warranty.

well i got one

£352.69 off of Dell's LiveChat guy..

at first he offered it to me for £430 and i said i couldnt afford that as i specified £400 for a dual-core with 1Gb RAM and a dedicated gfx card.

he then gave me this for £352.69!

what i did was show him the link to that Compaq £400 from here, and turn down his first offer..

see? it can be done

also, 256 hypermemory means 128 dedicated and 128 off of the system ram, which is a lot better than what had previously which was a geforce go 5200 with 64Mb RAM

The Radeon Xpress 1150 is NOT a dedicated graphics card, it uses the system memory, i.e. shared memory!

ATI Radeon Xpress 1150:
The successor of the Xpress M200 integrated shared memory graphic card for notebooks from ATI shows a good performane for graphic cards without own memory.

You're probably thinking of the Radeon X1400, which has some dedicated memory together with some that's shared.

yes, upon closer inspection you are correct, i mistook the words dedicated system mem for card mem, which is not the case:

Physical Memory UMA/System Memory visible to OS Shared/System Memory allocated for HM/HyperMemory = UMA + allocated system memory
512 64 448 192 256
768 64 704 192 256
1024 128 896 128 256
1536 128 1408 128 256
2048 128 1920 128 256

even so, i still believe the system will be worth the money easily, and it will do the funtion i wanted it for which was to run LotrO better than my normal lappy..

i have a 360 for games so really the gfx card was the least important aspect..

and importantly, the 1150 can run Aero Glass, the fancy part of Vista, so im fine there too

thanks for the heads up though
