I think I've broken my finger or damaged the ligaments - will it heal by itself?

I was just making the kids bed and put my hand between the bed and the wall and I heard a crunch. When I pulled my hand out my middle finger is drooping at the tip and it is pretty sore. It won't straighten up by itself, but it doesn't hurt the tip if I straighten it myself.
I just wonder whether it will mend by itself and will I get the full use of it again or am I left with a droopy finger??
I will go to the Doc on Monday, but I'm not hanging out at A&E tonight ! Any useful help - I'd be grateful.

A and E

i fractured 3 fingers years ago, fell out of a taxi (long story!) went to A&E the next day and they just strapped them together, waste of time TBO. try strapping it up, loosely though as it may swell.

I guess you are pretty familiar with the DGH then?!

Get to A&E now before the drunks start rolling in 9pm onwards, sat in an A&E on a weekend night when its full of drunks is no fun, believe me, especially with a little one in tow.

yes, they will always heal but you need to keep them in a splint so it stops the body part from moving , because if you keep moving it, it will slow the healing process but best to leave it to a qualified professional to diagnose and patch you up

I'll try strapping it. Makes typing a bit difficult....

not to far to go then i'm up the hydneye

Sounds like you've snapped your extensor tendon. In most cases it'll just need splinting and time to heal.

Small world! I'm in Roselands. I've got 3 kids and OH is out so I will leave A & E tonight - maybe go along in the morning. Hope your son is ok.

Sounds like what's called mallet finger, it's a common finger tip injury that will heel, but it needs to be put into a splint for 6-8 weeks. sometimes the finger tip remains dropy.
I would attend your local emergency /minor injury unit for treatment.

Well you could pull your droopy....Oh never mind:whistling:

Worldwide about 50 million people must have died today or had life shattering injuries.
Mmmmmmmmmmmm - broken finger - not so bad maybe.
Strap your finger up till tomorrow and then get down A & E tomorrow.
Happy healing!

That's exactly it LCS2008! You've hit the nail on the head! I feel better knowing it should heal if it is strapped properly, so I will go to A & E tomorrow and get that done. Thanks for the info.
